I don’t think we’re gonna see 30+ injury prone NBA stars getting 4+ year max contracts or extensions anytime soon. Teams are gonna force players like Embiid to play out their contract or trade them. If Embiid hadn’t gotten that extension last summer he probably wouldn’t have played in the Olympics and instead done everything to get in shape to get another extension. And more teams are going to be willing to let players like Beal and PG walk. Clippers set the tone with letting PG walk and offering Kawhi a 3 year max extension.

Nah, the owners will think it's different when it's their turn

I don’t think so no team wants to be in this situation with nothing to show for it. I can see owners offering injury prone stars who delivered a chip in the past long term max extensions, but not for these older players who haven’t.

Even in the clippers example they offered him 3 years at a max, so they didn't learn anything either.

He would have been playing ass for them right now if he took the deal.

Unless the owners collude to not sign players like baseball does, someone will always sign an aging star because it's not just on the court stuff that matters. You still have to sell ads and season tickets

That’s what I’m saying they won’t get offered more than 3 years at the max. And even then I wouldn’t be surprised if more teams push for the 3rd year being a team option. You can’t sell ads and season tickets if these dudes are missing tons of games.

Teams will always over pay when they think they got a championship window

Has happen for decades now and will continue

The difference is with the 2nd apron it’s harder for players to leave and get max deals on other teams. If another team had signed an aging injury prone 34 year old to a $200M contract two years ago and he fell off like PG has with the Sixers, nobody probably would’ve offered PG that contract this past summer. GMs get fired for giving out contracts like that.

Morey will probably be relieved of his duties soon.

They gave him a deal they knew he wouldn’t sign. They didn’t want him back
