This is a mask off moment and given that Elon isn't charismatic or particularly likeable I'm not sure how he fixes it. I'm amazed he was dumb enough to say this stuff out loud. H1B hires are often paid less than equally qualified/experienced American engineers and they regularly work 90 hours a week without issue. They're machines, basically. And if you're smart enough to do the work without a degree guess what? Hiring H1Bs legally requires you to hire Americans based off whatever the education level of the visa holder is. So that army of white boys who refuse to go to school for IT/engineering/etc get fukked by the numbers game.

In reality it was never about getting good jobs to Americans. What’s as concerning about that list is Indonesia and Mexico.

I’ve been talking about Mexico’s progress. I know Mexico across all Engineering disciplines has leveled up substantially. A lot of their Universities are now ABET-accredited like many U.S Universities are, they have a lot of room to grow and their President is a Physicist meaning they’re thinking forward. These aren’t the traditional Mexicans anymore.

Before Elon/Trump got elected I assumed they’d start making a splash during Kamala’s presidency, but now with Elon/Trump it’ll be much more rapid imo.

Mexico and Southeast Asia are going to be insane players who are only starting to make an impact. I mentioned already that SE Asia is already doing a lot of outsourced work lately.

This 100 Vivek and musk just said the quiet part out loud..Anybody in enterprise Level IT environments has seen these shifts over the last decade plus..I have literally seen whole groups like DB be H1b visa indians or whole groups like ENS (Enterprise Network services) offshored to Mexico..while these stupid maga cacs try to suppress and count black peoples blessings America and its job market is being pick pocketed by their own right under their fukkin noses

But us over in that tech layoff thread and other engineering threads been talking about this. People been trying to find solutions for it, but it’s out of our hands without Kamala and Democrats standing in the way.

It goes beyond tech as well: where you think all those immigrants will work when there are fewer tech jobs? That’s right, regular jobs they’re more than qualified for. Skilled physical labor? Immigrants will make robots to automate that too.
