Last year, I fell for the hype of Elden Ring and copped the game just to experience for self why it received so many awards at the time. First play through, I enjoyed it and put it to the side to avoid the potential rage, but I made a vow to complete it.

So I went on a huge binge for the past few weeks and holy hell....sighs....this game is going to age like Dragon Age Inquisition. All hype but so many flaws within the game.

  • The open world aspect was enticing but unneeded, as most of the areas are damn near waste of resources
  • Boss battles were cheap as all hell with no rhyme or reason, other than to make you rely heavily on coop
  • The grind just to get on par with some of the areas just feels forced for the sake of stretching out a 15 to 20 hour game
  • Near the end of the story, the game just felt like it was dragging for the wrong reasons
Compared to the previous Souls trilogy, which had probably the GOAT level design of all games, this feels like a bloated fukking mess. I shouldn't feel frustrated and wanting the game to end, but there I was...tired...worn out...and defeated running past shyt that makes no damn sense other than to cause misogynistic tendencies. The fact that this game still gets this level of praise blows my mind, but just like Dragon Age Inquisition which won so many awards in 2013, this is no different from all the hype, but as you play and go through the game...you see the cracks in the foundation.

Yes I will cop the expansion, but I will not enjoy it as heavy as the next Arcadium breh :francis:

bad take bruh.

Elden Ring's design basically ensures it won't age badly because there are multiple paths through the game that 80% of people won't see if they take another way up to Altus for example.
So there's whole sections people will discover on later playthroughs that have been in the game since vanilla.

I'm also 90% sure the DLC changes vanilla areas as well. The replayability is going to be big. Never used co-op, beat the game multiple times.

The design is all over the place though. Along with the terrible platforming and jumping. Don't get me started with the overly hyped horse.

Elden Ring Will Aged Terribly

Looks like your grammar aged terribly too, breh. :lolbron:

  • Near the end of the story, the game just felt like it was dragging for the wrong reasons

This was probably my biggest complaint with the game That Albunaric Town, Haligtree, and Boss Rush took out a lot of fun for me. The dungeons were fun and it’s content felt meaningful, I wish there was an over arching quest connected to them and FromSoft thought more about the multiplayer aspect of them.

The bosses are nowhere the level of quality compared to bloodborne, even when soloing bosses they didn’t feel as rewarding as taking out Micolash or the Wet Nurse Mergo.

It’s a great first try for FromSoft, I didn’t think it was a 10/10 more of a 7/10. Especially with that damn old ass engine.

That's basically it. Like, the boss runs felt flat, compared to the ones in Dark Souls. Even the music was forgettable. The dungeons tho, were pure FromSoftware piff. Some of the areas just felt like they were throwing a bunch of land to stretch the game beyond recognition. Also, the builds frustrate the living hell out of me. As a mage, this game relies hard on melee which I had to adapt to, which was obnoxious as all hell.

It was their first shot at an open world so I give em some slack, but the following

- Nokstella - great design, but dead and no reason to return
- Caelid - fukk the swamps fukk that level in general
- Snow Maps - Aggro ramp
- Volcano Manor - A entire map gone if you do it the opposite way

Basically Elden Ring’s highs can be evened out by it lows.

This dude covers a lot of the issues I had with the game primarily boss battles.

SIDE NOTE: I’ve always hated how such a massive world can be so dead. Really there’s on 48 people in the lands between. :beli:
