I had a suspicion, so I did some research. I'm not sure this is the exact reason, but there could be truth behind it....

Andres Guardado wasn't on the 2012 London team that beat Brazil for the gold medal. Can't remember if he was injured or just left off. Anyways, that gold medal was a big deal in Mexico.... and the players made it a bigger deal. I think not being on that team has made Guardado a little salty and he wants to participate in the Rio Olympics. I would agree with him only if the Centenario wasn't happening.
