I was already in the early stages of smarkdom by the time Edge's run really started popping, I'm just making the point that he was popular even outside the little smark bubble. These were the cards for the two Raws that are still the highest rated in the past 14 years.

as faces maybe. but Christain wasn't good enough as a face to be a top guy. midcard at best. His popularity height is basically 2009 Kofi Kingston. Now is that good enough to be the top guy? Mean while, Edge might not have been more over as a face but he was more over as a heel to be a top guy. There is nothing that stood out about Christian character wise. If you has to nick name your self Captain Charisma, no actual charismatic wrestler ever have to do that. He had a winy voice

christian broke thru as a heel first. he was just so over as a heel, that the crowd began giving him face props. he didnt actually turn face until he jumped to TNA.
it doesnt even make sense to claim that nothing stood out about christian character-wise, when the people already spoke on it. LOL. just say that you dont care for the guy and leave it at that.

and edge wasnt even over as a heel or top guy. he was always the co-star in his own run, whether it be playing 2nd fiddle to Lita or 2nd/3rd fiddle to his opponent.
