But that's the thing.

People paid attention when Nelly and KRS ONE battled on record.

People will pay attention but it becomes disposable if it's not a "hit record".

It's just a weird time I suppose. Everything is market and promotion heavy. Then you add the element of social media. You got social media personalities literally participating in real time with the artists and getting name dropped on wax. One could say the fans egged this on just to monetize their own shyt.
Royce was underground for so long and Lupe has done several stupid things that have backfired.

A 61 year old man complaining about hip hop in 2024.

Why didn’t he come for Funk Master Flex. He’s 55 promoting all of todays rap music.

Funk Flex is a slave to Hot 97… he has to do what Ebro says

Nas called him out taking money under the table to play wack records back in 2002. Nigha is probably getting kickbacks and funds playing garbage.

Now all of these old nikkas mad because Kendrick bodied Drake. Why wasn't these OGs talking like this when Drake bodied Meek?
In old heads defense, that's because Drake vs meek wasn't even in consideration for greatest beef of all time, back to back was just a cool lil party track that had the world in a chokehold for a few months.

Old head hate gets amplified when you threaten any of their GOATs. It's why they don't fw LeBron, it's why Kenny isn't in ANY old heads top 5 and many won't even put him in top 10. This isn't just a black thing either, old cacs still cling to Joe Montana over Tom Brady.

I'll be 33 next month :flabbynsick: but I'm still very much in touch with the youth no diddy/drizzy. I pray I never become so stuck on "back in my day" that I can't appreciate what's happening currently.

In terms of quality of the actual songs, most of them were trash. If they were released as actual records without being disses they would all be track #8 on an album that most people skip.

You used to have to make sure a diss record was an actual hot song so people would keep playing it on the radio. That’s not the case now, you can just drop some diss bars over a god awful beat with no hook and social media will make it go viral. You don’t need the radio.

If BBL Drizzy was actually mixed properly and had some good bars on it, that would have been a great diss record because it’s catchy as hell. Not Like Us is cool, but it’s not great.

As far as what people like The Game think. He would be one of the worst people to grade a rap beef in terms of the actual music because most rappers think anything they hop on can be hot. They downplay the impact that a good beat and hook have on a track. That’s one thing Ross has going for him, that nikka can pick a beat.
