Biscuits are the UK version of a Scone so to speak. Thats where the biscuit would evolve from considering its English roots. I used it as an example to create a visual. Much better than the crumpet example I quoted.

Scones are sweet and eaten on their own, as opposed to part of a meal. The principle is there tho.
