Pac hated and threatened to killed both em,

"one of us cats wasn't playin it right"

are you serious breh? how are u not getting this?:what:

The guy who "isn't playing right" is the guy "is home cheering the fights on"

And to think, the same people who still don't get that line are the same ones talkin' bout "b-b-but Jay said he dumbed down lyrics to double his dollars"... shyt, y'all havin' enough trouble figuring out an easy-to-understand line like the Tyson shyt from 15 years ago. I'd hate to see what would happen with something more complex.

For the last time... can't believe this shyt requires a breakdown.

"You cats is home screamin' "the fight's on"
I'm in the 1500 seats watchin' Ty-son
Same night, same fight, but one of us cats ain't playin' right
I'll let you tell it."

translation:

"I'm in expensive seats at the arena, you watchin' the shyt at home on PPV. If you gettin' money like I'm gettin' it... how come you ain't got a seat like me?"

The Pac shyt is a reach and a half. Even if you look at it as a dis, how the fukk does it even connect?

Where do people get the idea that pac was such an scary and intimidating figure other rappers was afraid to diss him?

Maybe because (and try to keep up) they didnt diss him while he was alive unless it was subliminal or when he was locked up.

The only blatant East Coast Pac diss was from Big and Mobb Deep.

Alot of East Coast rappers were sad when Pac passed. I remember the outpouring on Hot 97 with Lisa Evers.

Hello Treach and BCC was some of his closest comrades.

The Mobb diss was definitely before he passed. Matter fact, it came out like the very week right before he got shot. Of course the album came out later, but "Drop A Gem" was actually supposed to be the first single. For obvious reasons, they had to pull it back and drop something else instead... but it was def. out there right before the shooting.

The Lil' Kim lines on the original "Big Momma Thang" was before he passed too... had it on a tape in July of that year. And of course, they got cut by the time the album was out.

The Jay-Z Tyson fight lines are not about Pac... listen to the verse and it's pretty easy to understand. "You cats is home, screamin the fight's on, I'm in th 1500 seats watchin' Ty-son"... where nikkas drew a 2Pac dis out of that is beyond me. But yeah, the verse on "Dead or Alive" was definitely after the fact. :ehh:

The Biggie "and the winner is..." verse was also that summer before Pac died, so that doesn't count... but of course, "Long Kiss Goodnight" does. :ehh:

But ONE thing I think should also get dispelled is this belief that Pac had this whole host of rappers shook to death when he was alive... when most of the disses by him were not made public until after he passed. Before he died, the only people who anyone knew he was going at were Biggie, Puff & co.... and Mobb Deep. So all that shyt about how he made records about Nas and Jay-Z and The Fugees and De La Soul, and nobody said shyt is :duck: Those are mostly via songs and interviews that came out after he died. These weren't disses that were out there in the air already for that whole summer and nikkas just decided to keep quiet.

I think it's kinda foul to STILL go at a dude after he died, but fukkit.

Who f*ckin cares if the Mobb diss was before his death? They made a statement that they still couldn't hold back their feelings on what pac said about them and let the label release the song on the album. Which is in tune with the thread title.

On the jigga line, I think you are the idiot if you are 100% certain of it not being a subtle diss towards 2pac. The night of the fight was the event talked about during late '96, early '97 as the "possible" reason for pacs death. nikkas was still not knowing why pac died and the grief period was clouded by the fight and jay z making a reference to it and ending it with "one of us aint playing right, I let you tell it" clearly hints at a double entendre (the short story told before/pac's involvement in the beating of orlando).

Stop acting like you know what jay z was talking about, I understand the logic behind your argument but you telling it like it's obvious is being naive to jay z's capabilities.

2Pac

"My lyrical verse with so much pain
that to some nikkas it hurts
My guns bust
And if you ain't one of us
it gets worse
bytch nikkas get their eyes swoll
in fly mode
I'm a homicidal outlaw
and five-o, get your lights on, fight long
tonights gonna be a fukkin' fight
so we might roll"

Jay-Z

"You cats is home screaming the fight's on
I'm in the fifteen hundred seats, watching Tyson
Same night, same fight
But one of us cats ain't playing right, I let you tell it"

I always thought Jay got at pac with that line :manny:

You could have used that Jay track with Sauce Money as a better example than I Love the Dough.

right, the OP doesn't know about Dead or Alive so had to defend this huge reach

the only case in which I'll accept that Love the Dough line as a Pac diss is if other people noticed it at the time and accepted it as such... not dudes examining it 15 years later
