The spurs made the playoffs 7 out of 8 years before Duncan. In 3 of those 7 they won over 50 games. They tanked that one year completely on purpose by just straight up not having any veteran players who got hurt come back and play.
That is how Duncan was able to win a title in his second year. He was literally dropped into a team that was mowing through the regular season and mostly getting to at least the second round of the playoffs.
Dynasties are mostly formed when young teams get good fast and they can make deep playoff runs before their salary explodes AND they have players who take less meaning their is money to add other players to the team AND they hit on their bottom of the draft draft picks.
What is a dynasty anyway? Is a team that was trash for 5 years but then won 3 out of 4 chips but then was trash for 5 years a dynasty? Is a team that made the playoffs 20 + years in a row but only won a chip on average of every 5 years a dynasty?

Pip's deal was only shytty because it was a long term deal when even management told him that contracts were going to explode and they weren't going to renegotiate when that happened.
It's not like they were on bad deals that allowed the team to sign max players. Chicago had the 3rd highest payroll in the league in 91-91 at 16.8M.
Mike was at $3.2M, Scottie 2.7M, then Bill Cartwright at $2M.

There’s really nothing wrong with free agency but when you join a team that went 73 -9 and you one of the top players in the league that’s cheating. It’s almost like nba 2k. I didn’t even like watching them play. People will always look at KDs rings kinda of sideways. Until he get one as the center piece. I didn’t have a problem when Shaq went to Lakers as a free agent.
