They have bird rights on Smith. Just sign Dwight first then sign Smith.

Doesn't matter, he will still count against the cap until they renounce his bird rights. So they can't sign both unless they have cap space for both.

Fisher is just an office politics playing kissass who probably put his DSL's to work to keep his job. He always enabled Kobe, I've never seen any evidence to substantiate the rumors that he was able to talk slick to Kobe to earn his respect.

Smush Parker checked Kobe and put up numbers that Fisher could only dream of and we saw where that got him.

So you're saying Smush Parker was actually beneficial to the Lakers? The Smush whose career high in assists is 3.7? Who shot 33% in the playoffs? Never hit above 70% in FT's as a pg? :skip:

The only thing ill fault Kobe on is this whole "were old " bullshyt. He's defended and praised Dwight and Pau every chance he can get. Dwight been bytching about the defense, touched etc all season long. This nugga needs to have a goal of learning two new post moves every month because I'm tired of him opening his mouth and playing like shyt in the post

If you watch the games you will see that offense is not the problem. The problem is they can't stop people from scoring.

You should've posted the entire article. It's fukking insane, they're just shytting on each other blatantly.

"We have to play like we like each other. Even if we don't want to be friends off the court, whatever that may be, when we step in between the lines or we step in the locker room or the gym, we have to respect each other and what we bring to the table.

"It really starts off the court. I think you have to have that relationship and that chemistry off the court for it to really blossom on the court. It takes time to develop that. You just don't come together and then expect to be best friends right away. It just doesn't happen like that."

The topic came up because of Howard's complimentary comments about the Clippers after Friday's game, and a strange play in which Lakers forward Jordan Hill injured his ankle, rolled around in pain on the ground, but none of his teammates came over to check on him.

When asked to compare the still-developing dynamic between himself and Howard to the run he had with O'Neal, Bryant laughed.

"That was a different dynamic. Shaq and I were a different dynamic," Bryant said. "That type of duo, you're not going to find another duo like that ever. There were other duos that were better than us, (Scottie) Pippen and (Michael) Jordan. But you'll never find a duo with two dominant personalities like myself and Shaquille. That was kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing."

Looking back on those years, Bryant said he's amazed the peace held as long as it did.

"That just wasn't going to last," he said, laughing. "You have too many alpha males. What do you think would happen if you put Jordan with Wilt? It's just not going to happen."

So can two alpha males ever coexist long enough to win titles?

"We did. We won three straight," Bryant said, referencing the Lakers' three-peat from 2000-02. "One of them has to sacrifice. I sacrificed quite a bit with individual numbers and MVPs and NBA Finals and all this other stuff.

"Phil (Jackson) used to come to us as a team and let me take over in the march to the Finals. Then in the Finals against Eastern Conference teams that didn't have any centers, we went through Shaq. Those are things I was willing to sacrifice. You have to have that sacrifice to make that dynamic work."

Asked again how that compares to the dynamic with Howard, Bryant said: "It's not the same thing. On that team, it was me and Shaq and role players, who were excellent role players. Here, it's me, Dwight, Steve and Pau (Gasol). We play to each other's strengths. Steve is the best facilitating guard. Pau is the best facilitating big man. The ball goes through those guys, and it allows them to make everybody better. It's really that simple."

When told of Bryant's quotes, characterizing himself as sacrificing during the O'Neal era, Howard asked for clarification.

"He took a back seat?" Howard asked. "I was super young, so I really don't remember too much from those championship runs."

Howard was then asked if he thought he had the same kind of alpha male personality as O'Neal.

"You can't look at it as the alpha male. It's basketball. We're not a pack of wolves," Howard said.

"There's different ways to lead a team. Sometimes you have to follow to learn how to lead. I've done an excellent job with guys of being somebody they can all come to if they have a problem.

"But if they're not working the way they need to work, I'm the guy that will tell 'em, 'Hey, you need to get in the weight room or get some extra shots up.' That's where I come in. I don't have to bark about it to you guys (reporters) or to the team."

Howard then explained what his definition of an "alpha male" is.

"If you're an alpha male, you don't have to always show that you're the alpha male," he said. "Just be who you are. You come in the room, people know you're there.

"My presence is felt every day, and I don't have to come here and growl and snarl at people. I don't have to do all that."

Instead, he said he tries to create a happy, enjoyable work environment.

"(My teammates) like when I come in, have fun and enjoy myself. Because they want to have fun and enjoy themselves, too," Howard said. "If they can't do it, it's not a great working environment.

"I don't think you guys would want to come into work with a boss that's always telling you what to do. If you see the boss being at ease and having fun doing it, then you're going to have fun doing that. That's who I am. I've been an alpha male my whole life, but I don't go pissing everywhere to show people that I'm an alpha male. I just need to be who I am."
you got a link for this article bruh? I'm trying to send this to someone.

Anyone else have it that would be cool too

edit never mind :heh:

Yea....about this. Nobody notices that Kobe has a distorted perception of what actually took place?

Kobe's attempts we're right around career norms. There didn't seem to be any sort of special sacrificing going on. They we're two stars and got all the shots.

But the Phil quote is laughable.

No, Kobe, you didn't take over on the march to the Finals. Shaq was more productive throughout those title runs in the regular and postseason, and he didn't get the ball in the finals because you played the East, he got it because he was the most dominant player in the game. No shame in being second fiddle to that, but relax.

Kobe's playoff production was actually down in the 2000 and 2002 playoff runs, so any perception that he took over or stepped his game up isn't in line with reality.

Dwight's problem is that he thinks he's a go to man on offense when he really isn't. The Lakers traded him for his defensive prowess. He's the 3 time DPOY, not the 3 time scoring champ. He should start accepting that defensive big man role like Mutombo and Tyson Chandler. Nothing but pnrs, lobs, and put backs on offense. Just anchor the fukking defense and put your fukking game face on, ya bish.

Na, let's not act like he doesn't efficiently go about his business and get 20 a game when healthy and good. He's better offensively that you give him credit for. He's anchored great teams as it is.

Dwight fukking sucks though

Kobe is pushing career highs and dwight is playing like shyt. He fukking sucks and was totally overrated just like I said.

Rofl @ nikkas comparing Kobe's leadership to Durants. Are you fukking serious

Did you guys start watching Basketball in 2011?

HEY UH NEWSFLASH

KOBE WAS JUST IN THE FINALS FOR 3 STRAIGHT YEARS WINNING 2 OUT OF THE 3, AND BEFORE THAT WON 3 IN A ROW

HE KNOWS HOW TO WIN AND DWIGHT HOWARD'S DUMB ASS HAS NO IDEA HOW TO, THAT'S WHY PAU GASOL shytTED ON HIM.

Kobe never got out of the first round without Pau Gasol or Shaq. It's a team game.

Sorry, he doesn't know how to win any more than Dwight. Notice how the circumstances make the difference?

Dwight's carried a team to deep playoff runs himself and never had a star teammate aside him.

Yeah I agree....To be clear Phil isn't the "only one" capable.. He was just the closest and most ideal to the Lakers situation..But a Riley, Pop, Doc and Thibs could also be successfuly with big egos and dominate personalities...

But yeah the players do need to be accountable..But there is a reason why leadership is so important and a good coach is crucial...

Also their is a difference between being an alpha male and just being an azzhole...I'm starting to notice the last few years that that line is being blurred...

For example.. Alpha dogs never have to self proclaim themselves as such.... It's just assumed through their actions and who is willing to follow them...
Kobe has got to curb the "hard on teammates movement" he's fostered over the course of his career. Of course he is who he is but he's got to ease up with that shyt. Now if he was a bench/role player no one would give a shyt but as the team captain and face of the franchise you have to be efficient in team relations in some type of capacity. Last year when Lamar Odom spazzed out at the thought of him almost getting traded I said to myself, 'ok no problem Kobe and the team will sit him down and talk to him and calm him and it'll be all good'. But did that happen? did you even hear anything of that nature? Odom ended up leaving in a hissy-fit. That was weird too me.

And doesn't he have some say so in player personnel? Why was Gerald Green cut, why was Goudelock cut, why was Chris Douglas Roberts cut? That's a nice athletic bench? :why: I don't get dude at all when it comes to team affairs and politics. It does seem like its all about him getting him looking good-getting his shots and points and fukk everything else. He's a smart guy and knows his x's and o's.. I'm sure he even knew that Dwight and Nash wouldn't even mesh with him or Pau. He just wants to shoot, fukk winning, fukk the coach, fukks his teammates, he just wants to shoot period

Dwight think he's an alpha-male but doesnt have the attitude, focus, or game to back it up...and this is mainly due to the fact he has to rely on the offense to get his shots...cant create

its nice that he thinks he brings warmth to the locker-room with his jokes and dancing, but in reality those things have not been proven to produce championships...

better put

Na, not really.

All of this stuff about Dwight not having an attitude or a focus just hasn't translated to the context of the basketball game.

When he has been on the court and healthy, he's went out and been an achor and a superstar. His playoff numbers don't lose any edge and he's been the main guy on a Finals Team.

You know what is proven to produce championships? Loaded teams. Dwight didn't lose in the 2009 finals because Kobe's will was superior. He lost because the Lakers were the better team.

To the quote, LeBron didn't lose in 2007 because his team wasn't focused. They lost because SAS was better.

These teams (ORL and CLE) won big and got ALL the way to the finals, apparently playing great basketball, and they lose, and we justify that by saying 'We'll, they attitude wasn't right'. That's the reason!? That's the analysis?!

It doesn't' add up.

It doesn't matter what Dwight is off the court. Dude has always been a man on the court.

The Lakers squad that beat Orlando definetly wasn't loaded. Dwight lacks killer instinct and he lacks focus. He rarely pays attention to detail, like last night, dude blocked a shot directly into the hands of an open 3pt shooter. Nobody serious about their game would have so less of a post game 8 years in. Bynum didn't come into the league with half the moves he has now. At some point he's gonna have to be more serious on and off the court if he wants to be a leader on this squad. You got 34 year old Kobe, not only out working Dwight, but plays each game with a professional attitude. If he turns it over, he's not laughing or smiling like Dwight, he's pissed off. And that's pretty much the standard for many leaders, CP3, Dirk, LeBron, etc...

Didn't Kobe drop 30 a game in route to defeating Dwight in the Finals, and Dwight had lots of help, Jameer, Hedo, Shard, etc...it just wasn't him

Dwight is better than your giving him credit for. He has developed a decent rocker step to the hole. He's learned to employ spin moves baseline and has a solid drop step. His hook shot has become more fluid over time as well. He's not a surgeon out there, but saying he's unskilled down there is hyperbolic.

I mean, we're still talking about a guy that shoots close to 60 percent and gets you 20 a night when he's right, regardless of what you think is weakness.

Andrew Bynum doesn't actually do anything better than Dwight, he's just more fluid. And it reflects in the production.

Just because Dwight has a personality sports fans find difficult to digest for their heroes doesn't mean he doesn't work his ass off and play great on the floor.

There really isn't any evidence that he isn't serious about the game or that Kobe or anyone has outworked all year. It's just easy to perceive that because he's not consistently showing outward expressions of it.
