I respect anybody who can even get the 100s up and in position...

That's the hardest part with any of the heavier dumbbells. Compared to that shyt, the reps are easy.

Y'all do Incline dumb bell presses?

I do 90's-100's+ on them and hate doing flat presses. Very rarely I'll super set with a super light weight, but going heavy just doesn't feel right, would rather barbell bench.

Myself
The most I ever did for 10 reps was 110s x 4. I never got to 115 because we only had 1-115lb dumbbell and the next weight was 120. I mustve had a mental block because I never did hit those for 10 reps, I'd always die at 6 or 7. This was when I was training all the time in my early 20s, and weighed between 215-225.

Now, I do 3-4 sets of 65-80lbs while increasing the weight each set. Its disappointing because my mind and muscles feel like they can do more, but my joints and ligaments give me the:camby: when I try and go in.

Sidenote: the gym i used to train at had a good amount of body builders and college athletes. It was a great environment with lots of positive motivation. I remember seeing 200lbs+ dbs from the 1960s or something, and mans going IN. More squat racks and areas to power clean than treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes.

Now I'm at a local gym full of regular folk, the dbs dont even hit 100lbs, and they've invested in a lot of cardio machines. It's all good because I still get my stuff done, and it isn't like I need to be pushing heavier weight anymore anyway:jawalrus:...

Nah im really just approaching:flabbynsick:

Dumbbells cannot be bench press royalty. Only the barbell can be and 3 plates aside (315lbs) is when I personally become impressed...and I stress the I part

I'm doing 100's for 6-8 reps. I just came back to the gym 2 weeks ago :heh:

Dumbells are far harder to push weight than that p*ssy ass barbell. Barbells are for pussies with no self-esteem who need to push weight to trick themselves into thinking they're strong.

im not even close to 100s but in general i prefer DB bench to barbell because of the spotter aspect you need to push on BB

last time with going up in weight, it was always my mind tellin my yes but my shoulder was tellin me no

i pretty much took a month off chest, started over. even if my weights are :flabbynsick: i just stopped comparing myself to the next man. if i gotta increment up at a slower pace, so be it. i wanna do this shyt over a course of many years and don't wanna crap out early (even though i feel like my joints are :flabbynsick: for a 24 year old)

You really think that lol? To me its the same like others have said as long as your balanced strength wise its no problem. I just haven't saw it even cats that I see in the gym randomly. They usually do about the same on both. Whatever makes people feel better though

Nah holmes. You do LESS weight with dumbbells compared to the barbell. Try to max your bench press of 350 lbs. using two 175 lb. dumbbells :dead: Wouldn't be able to do it. The weight distribution is different also.

I wasn't saying you don't at all but in most cases at least just looking causally I don't see it. Ill pay more attention but definitely looking at me and my friends that lift regularly we all are doing close to what we lift normally with DB's. I shouldn't say its no difference but for me at least I can do what ever I'm benching with dbs at least up to 260 (130 each side) since that's as far as they go. That's why I said what I said but maybe your right

Yeah 110 per hand is way harder than damn 225 with a barbell and it's not even close.
I think that's a speak for yourself because with this exact weight its the same thing. Now if you get way further up maybe it switches but since our gym only has 130 that's the most we can do and have no problem with it. It just take time IMO

First off fukk what anyone else thinks.

That said, I don't think 100s are elite status. Think about it... thats not even 2 plates on BB bench. I think people struggle with DB bench because you have to have a balanced physique just to get set up right with heavy DBs. I do 95 for ~10 reps for burnout sets and I'm far from elite IMO. Elite DB bench is like 120 for reps IMO.
:leon: not bad on the stats breh...but lettuce not forget that them DBs isolate and exploit each arm and they're weaknesses that barbells don't...when I hit my heavier weights on DBs after a couple sets my left arm starts faltering...225lbs on a barbell bench press is a synergistic workout that does not isolate specific sides you're pressing from...DBs isolate them shyts...plus I've seen many nikkas go for reps under 225 on the barbell when they can't even get the mount for 90lbs on the DBs.

i think people are just seeing the weight and saying that since 110 x 2 = 220 then it means that you're applying the same strength under DBs that you are on a barbell and that's not the case...for the vast majority of people at least
