The Truth
It's an exercise that forces the body to use more strength to balance each dumbbell compared to a barbell press. The point of the dumbbell press is to work those extra muscles. Not to press out a one rep max. You don't want to get injured, you want to get stronger. So, yeah, 100 lbs. each dumbbell is a lot, but you can't compare it one-to-one against a barbell press.
Exactly

I can throw up 100+ too at any point I feel like it but honestly I don't.

like homie mentioned above, it's mainly for those stabilizer muscles. I go light as fukk on dumbells and do a high rep to end my chest workouts usually and I don't give a fukk.

And if homie was a small dude it's more impressive too. It better be light weight if you weigh 250+ nikka

I'm 230 and 100s feel light. 110+ tho :whew: small increments of weight make a big difference with DBs

man where yall working out at?
I dont see folks squatting over 225, let alone DB pressing 200+

Very rare...most frequent I saw it was it at a university where athletes frequented.

8/10 men aren't hitting those numbers.

When I was going for 6 reps, I used to do the hundos. It's good weight, compared to the average human. But compared to the regular gym goers, it's decent. You could grunt doing that weight.

The Ummah!
not :old: but in my prime (2-3 years back) I was doing 100lbs 105lb dbs for reps on the flat bench, a lot of brehs at the gym be on it, obviously they are a minority. But to me elite is doing 100lbs on incline for reps, and a real incline, not no halfa$$ 160 degree angle, should be about 120 degrees.

Nice thread, I am a proponent of DB over BB, but I switch it up

Currently my bench pressing on barbbell is:
130kg (285lbs) @5 reps
140 (308lbs) @3 reps
150kg (330lbs) @1 rep

Then I rest for a little while to get the energy back, like 7 minutes, then grab the dumbbells and hit:
60kg (132lbs) for 8 reps 4 sets.

By then I'm pretty pumped, then I do incline DB using 50kg for 8 reps and 4 sets. The chest is obliterated then! Finish up on some weight dips and DB flyes and I'm ghost

Chest still is my least favourite day, all that laying on your back :sadcam:

My norm when it comes to flat dumbbells are the 90s for 6-8 reps/5 sets.

Finally got my hands on some 120s...did them for 6 reps 3 sets. :banderas:

My shoulders and wrist go :sadcam: if I barbell press over 230 though.

Never seen anything over a 100.

So I do those for 3 sets of 10 at my gym.

Anything over 100 for reps is elite in my opinion especially if you can do it on incline.

Before I hurt my shoulder I was able to rep 150s for 3 sets of 6 and could do 155s for 3 reps.

I use dumbbells over barbell for bench 90% of the time.
