So I was in the gym and this guy started banging out the 100 pound dumbbells for reps on the flat bench,I was impressed because you dont see many guys going above 75 and maybe on rare occasions you will see someone grabbing 100's or more, now I can do 110's for 6 reps, but it just was impressive because as I said many ppl dont grab them 80's-95's let alone 100+.

So this meathead is over to the side and says thats beginer weight:dwillhuh::childplease:

Im thinking in my head like yea nikka for nikka on roids and who bodybuild 100 pound dumbbell presses aint shyt, but for the average nikka in the gym and on the streets to see someone actually do them is like:ohhh::salute:

Whats yall take tho?

To me anything 100+ for people who dont bodybuild and roided up is elite,as I said just think about the last time you seen someone repping 100 pound dumbbells for sets come on now I been lifting for 3 years at different gyms and I can count on 4 fingers how many times Ive seen it.

First off fukk what anyone else thinks.

That said, I don't think 100s are elite status. Think about it... thats not even 2 plates on BB bench. I think people struggle with DB bench because you have to have a balanced physique just to get set up right with heavy DBs. I do 95 for ~10 reps for burnout sets and I'm far from elite IMO. Elite DB bench is like 120 for reps IMO.

before my shoulder injury i used to bench up to the 110#s for a few reps. i don't think it's necessarily elite status. i wouldn't worry though, some people do better w dbs, some people do better w bbs, i always like a nice mix of both.

but on the real fk that meathead that said, "beginner weight."

True but it takes alot more concentration and makes you use those stabilizer muscles alot more, but at the same time I barely see people doing the 100's or anything close to it.

Far as general population I think its elite and even for average gym goers

It's an exercise that forces the body to use more strength to balance each dumbbell compared to a barbell press. The point of the dumbbell press is to work those extra muscles. Not to press out a one rep max. You don't want to get injured, you want to get stronger. So, yeah, 100 lbs. each dumbbell is a lot, but you can't compare it one-to-one against a barbell press.

I wouldn't say it's elite.

Of course, I ain't doing them. I do 5x5 with 90lb dumbbells (or 205 barbell -- I think I can go higher, but never have a spotter and I don't want to talk to these clowns in the gym).

I'm not a body builder ... and i don't consider myself very strong (above average maybe). So, since 100 lb dumbbell bench is an attainable goal for me, I wouldn't consider it elite. BUT, it's definitely not beginner weight ... not for anyone who's close to average in size/weight.

ANYBODY who'd go out of their way to say some shyt like this to a fellow gym goer is somebody who's opinion you should yawn at and immediately disregard. Real talk. That's a loser that has to try to push someone down to prop themselves up.

Like others have said in the thread some cats bang out better on DB some on the BB's

One of the best things a gym goer can do for themselves is work on losing that obsession with phrases like "elite" and "beginner" etc just based off what they can do to you psychologically

once you start doing 90 and above you should have a decent physique. people can tell youre a gym goer and what not. in all the gyms i've been to the highest ive seen lifted was 120

100s is 225 on bench....stabilizer muscles even difficulty. :ehh: Most nikkas that could bench 225 would fail on 100s. With dumbbells you got a more natural ROM and it ensure both pecs are being used evenly. Don't forget even getting them up is a challenge.

Most people can't go over 90 that I've seen. 115 impresses me like:obama:.

If you inclining (30, 45 degrees) 90+...mad props as well. :whew:

End of the day, don't compare yourself to others...never know what workout plan the other man is on and his health status.

Yep Ive seen 120's lifted as well but for the most part the 80's+ dumbbells collect dust.

I agree with everything you said, and thats why I think db press is harder than bb bench because you have to get them dumbbells up where as the barbell is already basically lifted for you, ontop of having to use those stabilizer muscles.
