Well in terms of how many things some Christians ignore that are written in the Bible, it's pretty significant. There are so many examples of things that many Christians do that contradict the Bible or are explicitly prohibited. Like observing Pagan holidays (Christmas [Saturnalia], Easter [Isthar], Halloween [Samhein], New Year's [Janus], Valentines Day [Juno Februata]), erecting Christmas trees, having services on Sunday (that was instituted by the Roman Catholic Church) instead of on the Sabbath, NOT following the most basic precepts of the Bible, NOT keeping the Feasts of the Old Testament (like Passover, even though they're commanded to keep them) ...
I don't want to offend anyone or start a debate, but it's safe to say that many Christians treat the Bible like a buffet and pick and choose what they want to follow. I am NON-denominational and I am not promoting any particular sect but I know atheists who know more about the Bible than do most Christians.
The whole prosperity movement, which basically treats God like Santa Claus with the view that God is supposed to "bless" people with material wealth. When Jesus said that it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. I am NOT against anyone being wealthy or being successful, but I don't think that wealth is the thing that I should seek from God. I should seek to have better CHARACTER and UNDERSTANDING to be a better person. I want to have a positive impact on the world around me.
Basically "Christians" make a mockery of God and try to make God fit their agenda and lifestyle.
Like they hate homosexuals, but have NO problem with people living together before marriage OR having children outside of marriage... Or being turnt up in the club...
Look at that show Preachers of LA. How can any of those men be taken seriously as leaders???? But Christians will drag you for pointing out the obvious treachery.
It's really just sheer ignorance.
The Bible is really detailed about lots of things, but it's easy to ignore it if you haven't read/studied it...
A lot of Christians really have NO IDEA of what the Bible says and if you point anything out, they'll just make an excuse, "Well the Lord knows my heart.... blah blah blah" or "I'm not taking down my Christmas tree"
And by the way I am NOT a Jehovah Witness, Seventh Day Adventist or any of those things...
I was raised in a regular church where we actually studied the Bible and I am currently studying the Bible through Hebrew classes...
I am not promoting ANYTHING
I just get annoyed with people operating in WILLFUL ignorance..
No matter what people profess to believe, they should at least read the book and understand the most basic things...
Other religions spend many hours in studying their texts and beliefs (Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Judaism, Bahai'ism, Jainism, etc.) and take their beliefs seriously, but Christians seem to be very reactionary and lackadaisical when it comes to the ACTUAL practice of their faith... but want to judge and condemn others all at the same damn time...
Like racist Christians... REALLY? Or people who put their pastors on a pedestal... How is the pastor balling out of control with bodyguards and you've got members with NO FOOD (I have seen this before). I just think that many Christians are just playing...
