The current drill rap scene is exactly how i imagined the mid-90's Memphis rap scene would look if viewed thru a social media lens, if it were available back then. And I agree with OP. I think alot of people in this thread are missing the point. It isn't just the musical content alone that makes it the "grimiest"... it's their overall lifestyle combined with the dark sound and content of the music. These nikkas routinely piss & shyt on the graves of their dead rivals for fukks sake, when have we ever seen that? And most of these nikkas are really in the field day in and day out doing damn there every thing they put in these raps. But the fact that drill rap made it's emergence at the height of the social media age might exacerbate how grimy the scene is compared to past eras, where we didn't have social media (youtube, twitter, instagram) to watch their every step.
