Drake likely came up with the idea to do Kendrick like Jay did Mobb Deep at Dreamville, but with him and Cole declaring war on stage.... that wouldve been a WHOLE different momentum and probably would have had Dot on the ropes in the first round
But Cole gets cole feet (dont even ask me how)
And backs out, recants the diss and Drake is furious, forcing him to release that Drop and Give Me 50 a few days later cause his plan to send Jermaine out like Jay did Beanie Sigel backfired
Thats why he subbed him twice in both his disses
From everything I’ve seen Cole backed out as soon as he dissed Kendrick. It was said they spoke after the diss dropped. Kendrick prolly asked him what that was about and Cole gave him his perspective.
It seems like Drake told Cole something that made him think Kendrick was on First Person Shooter. Somehow it turned into just them two. I’ve seen it floated out there that Drake sent Kendrick the beat and no verses. Idk. Cole showed love on the song , but that everybody think they steppers part probably made Kendrick put his antennas up.
I don’t think Drake was there because Cole had already spoke to Kendrick. If he was there it was probably unannounced and he found out Cole was backing out so he left.

I feel like even with this Kendrick would have had a contingency plan. It looked like TDE was ready to tap in should Kendrick had needed it and i’m also sure Kendrick had at LEAST two songs ready for Cole if Cole hadn’t bowed out.
Drake wouldn’t have just showed up to Dreamfest to diss Kendrick without Cole’s advance foreknowledge. So SOMETHING must have happened between whenever they planned what they planned and Drake bouncing 30 mins beforehand. Either Cole and Kendrick spoke and Kendrick told him he was going to absolutely get personal with Drake AND him if he didn’t step aside or Schoolboy Q might have gotten in Cole’s ear and told him all of TDE was ready to ride with Kendrick and it was about to be TDE vs Dreamville if he didn’t step aside.
But if this particular story is true about Drake being there up until 30 mins beforehand then Cole ‘s change of heart was more in the moment than we’d been led to believe.
