I watch the grammys for entertainment and understand the importance for the artist because it elevates their status and money-earning potential.

But anyone seriously invested in their favorite artist winning is silly, especially if you and that favorite artist is black.

Its a popularity contest and a political award. It's a prop and a statement. It's a lot of things at various times whenever it feels like being it, but one thing it isn't is validation for black art.

You are not supposed to care that much about what white folks think of black art. I don't feel Lupe Fiasco is any less an artist having not won for best album, nor do I think Macklemore is any more of an artist because he has.

In fairness he didn’t submit it, 21 Savage’s team submitted. His last two albums he’s refused to submit and when CLB was nominated against his will he had the nom publicly rescinded.

I’ll give him credit alongside the Weeknd for standing on business and doing what alot of artists SAY they’ll do but never actually do and thats boycott.

Its probably a bit easier for them as their Canadian and their equivalent of the Grammys, The Juno Awards, has awarded them both several times with top honors but still, they’re taking some sort of stand

Pretty much. Grammy don’t mean a damn thing to someone on his level no should it mean shǐt to someone putting in work and building their core fanbase so they can tour + eat off of it with merch.

Bunch of these Grammy winners will get picked and you don’t hear much from them on that level again so aside from the award it’s right back to relative obscurity
