This isn't accurate, there was pushback from when it first came out, everything Drake does is successful all in all, but there was pushback to NWTS, moreso than this album IMO because the pushback isn't so much the quality of the album but mostly from the beef preceding it. A lot of people really didn't like NWTS because of the sound it had. I think it would've sounded different too if it wasn't pushed back and SFTB wasn't successful.
Wu Tang Clan and hip hop heads had a lot of beef with the Wu Tang Forever track (some of them did go back and change their opinion some didnt.). Started From the Bottom was a hit, All Me was popular amongst cacs but it was
, Hold On eventually grew on people but there was a good amount of people who wasn't messin with it. The album didn't have many viral hits with vasts amounts of people cosigning it like they did with Take Care and IYRTITL, almost like Views, which was again successful but nowhere near as wildly successful and popular as TC and IYTITL.I think the album aged really well but people aren't very retrospective these days so I don't know if the casual everyday person agrees with me or not.

only listened to side a twice and it didnt move me much--the rapping or the production. since views his music hasnt felt same--his albums anyway. up until then he had a very strong discography. i dunno if its him now writing his songs entirely but he isnt as strong an artist. there r still a handful of good tracks here n there. i liked alot of more life actually.

I just can't get through this album. Dude is a coward and a fakkit. I tried, but my heart just couldn't bare hearing his corny ass. Dude is corny as fukk, so fukking corny. Too concerned with impressing strippers and prostitutes than defending his family's honor. fukk him, corny yellow ass nikka. nikka is such a fukking cornball. Ive never in my life seen someone so protected by the establishment. nikka don't even fight his own battles; those corporate dudes in the background settle his beefs for him. How the fukk we let a light Brite fakkit infiltrate this thing of ours? FOR GOD SAKES WE BEND MORE RULES THAN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

I listened to this a few more times since my last opinion. This album as it was released and how it will be rated, is still utter ass and that point stands.
I knew I wouldn't be listening to this as is in the future so I put it in a playlist and started cutting down on the filler or what I didn't like, which is like 10 songs, almost half the album.
That said, after losing those 10 tracks, I would have liked this album and that's a damn shame. Cause of death: filler, and really bad filler. You have 15 tracks that make a solid album for Drake honestly and I'd have no problem giving 4 mics, putting this over IYRTITL and up there with Take Care even with the fukk shyt surrounding this album.
Even then 4 would be the absolute highest, I have a disdain for nikkas who sound like someone to the point after 3 listens I can't identify it until I see a post about it (Mob ties even though I fukk with it)
As far as the responses, exactly what I thought it would be. The whole album a sub, weak ones too. He sounds like hanging on as hard as he can to make this album emotionally.

The way Drake views women and his relationships with them is odd and disturbing. They're not people with agency but empty plastic for him to shape, then he discards them when his manufacturing goes wrong.
