It's not about "poverty porn", or a competition for who struggled the most, but if you don't understand why that is an insulting comparison....I listened to hip hop/rap because it spoke directly to me, for the have nots and the disenfranchised, who ended up in the streets, like a Jay, or caught up in the game, like a Pac, or watching the destruction and chaos from the bench like Nas.... I can relate to artists of different genres struggles of love, whatever, rap is deeply personal for me....My household income wasn't 50k, when I was 14 years old, I can't relate to a kid that grew up as a working child actor, who made more the the national average income now.
