It could mean many things - they agreed on a monetary settlement or a renegotiated contract. Him filing this suit was a last resort after discussion failed. They clearly received a demand letter before he filed. But moreover, he never actually filed a complaint in NY. What he filed was a pre-complaint motion that basically said some people did some shyt but I don’t know who so you owe me free discovery to identify some parties. Basically, he wanted to force them to the table because this isn’t a suit he could win without any sort of smoking gun. The response would’ve been - we got nobody to disclose because this shyt didn’t happen and you haven’t alleged strong enough facts to show it did. That was basically their response plus some sauce.

But bottom line, they reached some sort of resolution that his counsel advised him to take. It also shows the he was doing it for the artists angle was bullshyt because he didn’t expose anything and walked away when he got what he wanted. He didn’t go scorched earth - just scorned. I’d guess they slightly modified his contract terms.

You almost never pay the opposing party’s attorney’s fees when you settle and the court won’t even grant that unless the other side was doing something egregious and totally in bad faith. 90 percent of cases settle and it doesn’t mean that anyone is happy, it’s just the cost of litigating is more expensive than walking away.

For example, both sides have big law attorneys who have raised their fees 40 percent in recent years. So Drake’s attorney - the partner is approaching 2k an hour and the associate on it is probably around 1300 to 1400 an hour. The same for the other side. Now multiple those numbers by hundreds of hours.
