I always find the reactions to Drake projects fascinating, because people seem to want so many different things out of him. I think this a solid project...nothing great, but there's definitely some tracks I really like on here.
But then again I enjoy the angrier version of Drake to the singy simpy stuff...he does that stuff well...maybe even better than his more aggressive style...but I'm just not a fan of softer music in general.
The weird conscious argument in this thread is another really interesting thing about reaction...I honestly could care less what Drake feels about average person struggles...he's way too far removed from that and his life experience wouldn't match up...it would end up sounding forced. We as fans of hip-hop can't get to a point where everyone needs to speak on problems within the community. We need all types of music that address all types of things. In the end music is expression and if Drake doesn't have anything to express about societies ills I don't think we can judge him in a negative light for that. Why would we want him to force something that's not there? Just to check a box? ...Although I will admit to an extent that when you reach the height of Drake's stardom and near omnipresence in social media it would be nice if he did have something to say, because he's got the ear of a lot of people that really need to hear the right message and he could deliver it to a large audience willing to listen.
