At least Uzi and Carti got fanbases. Some of these other artists, especially the thot rappers, got nothing. Coi Leray flopped and disappeared; came back even skinnier and now seems focused on being an Instagram hoe until her writers can come up with a viral track for her. Latto has a big hit apparently but did 23k first week and is largely propped up by her label.

I wonder what Drake really thinks about Jack Harlow btw. He did the favor for DJ Drama but does he look at that dude like an entitled/privleged lame stealing his shyt, or is he simply watching it all play out to see whether this guy is real or not. You can tell Drake respects Cole and Kendrick due to them lasting this long. Fan disputes aside, Drake went to both of Kendrick's Toronto shows this year and he's done stuff with Cole recently.

Drake and Cole are legit friends. They’ve both said it a few times. It makes both of them being bi-racial and coming into the game at the same time with co-signs from big time rappers after having worked the mixtape circuit.

Cole and Kendrick are friends too.

Seems its just Kendrick and Drake who are “frenemies” but I think Drake is legit scared to go to war with Kendrick so they just exist in their own orbits.

As much as I love this album, I think Drake is going down a similar path that Jay Z did in the latter part of his career. This is Drakes “Watch The Throne”, from the collaboration aspect, to the braggadocio luxury bars that are on each track. It worked for this album (and WTT), but I think he’s gonna drop a dud critically with his next release, similar to Jay’s Magna Carta Holy Grail.

I was a teen growing up when MCHG released, and thought that Jay was too un-relatable on that album to the point where it affected the album quality for me. I think Drake will reach similar levels with Gen Z. How long can a 36+ year old man constantly shyt on things that are perceived as “luxury” for the normal young person gonna last? This new Gen gonna get salty about it eventually lol

Not saying he will flop commercially, but he definitely will lose favor with the young crowd, unless he matures to some extent, similar to Jay Z’s following project after MCHG, 444. That album breathed new life into his career and extended his relevancy. Drake needs a 444 somewhat soon. Doesn’t have to be a similar concept, but an album with substance and introspection.

Am I tripping?
Jay z issue wasn’t so much luxury raps it was the arts raps.

Everyone can relate to being “on to the next”

No one gives a fukk about expensive art and painters

It’s well documented how corny that Picasso baby video is but the name dropping painters for an entire song was corny too

I think he's aware, but truthfully drake has always been unrelatable. This album is actually him being as relatable as possible but to dudes who are "mad at chicks" and "thots"

At some point he's going to have to stop dropping albums and start showing up on features here and there. I actually feel like he's handling his aging in music better than Jay, and most other super popular rap and hiphop artist that continue to actually make music. outside of say cole, snoop, em wayne and tyler. Kendrick can never go back to gkmc, most of these older rap artist are kinda stuck in a lane musically. Jay has found his lane now, but who knows if we ever get another album from jay he's what mid 50's now? At 36 Jay dropped Kingdom come, drake drops her loss. Savage and drake make good music together and drake unlike jay has been pop and "street" for sometime now. So it doesn't sound awkward...
I think the big thing is it's unapologetically non simpy (mostly) and way more blatantly disrespectful instead of hidden between singing and double entendres.

Drake is really good at emulating the current sound into his cadence, he technically can be relevant off features forever. Album wise, he should stick to rapping and collaboration albums going forward. I think the singing thing has run its course unless he really buckles down and focuses on his vocals.

We seen this nikka from age 21 to 36 in the mainstream, and he dropped every year
no artist has aged better in hip hop. This is just raw data talking

:mjlol:

Drake a genius. Released dogshyt for so long his mid becomes better :wow:

Like Im trying to figure out what metric could make this Aoty just in rap unless youve listened to like 5 or leas projects. This is definition of mid and its so sassy

I think you're right. Personally the art rap shyt didn't bother me but it was Jay's first flex that no one really cared about. If he was a more active rapper rn he'd be rapping about crypto and shyt...which most black people don't care about either.

Drake has more relatable luxury raps than most. He's not out here pretending to be a fashion model. He's wearing nice suits and Nike tracksuits, traveling the world and eating at nice restaurants. That's far more in line with what most dudes want, vs Kanye's fashion raps for instance.
