They been putting hints here and there that Gohan got the juice now. Why wouldn't they? We just saw Trunks go pseudo SSJ God Blue. Ya'll forget that Gohan is one of those characters that doesn't have to do much training to catch up. He can be a beast when he wants to, he just never had a good comeback story.
