Not my post

But found this interesting. This from some one else on another forum

"The problem with Jiren's backstory isn't that it's generic (it is, btw). The issue here is when you realize what show you are watching: Dragon Ball. You know, the series where a baby is sent to Earth, clonks his head, and becomes a martial artist, training with multiple masters until he learns about his background as a member of an extinct warrior race, and eventually fulfills a prophecy from their culture, becoming a legendary warrior that is said to be virtually indestructable. The series where the prince of said race has all his people slaughtered by a space dictator, is held in bondage, and trains most of his life to become the strongest in the universe. The series where a boy from the future has all his loved ones killed, and is taken in by a master to train to become strong enough to protect the remaining individuals in his planet (wait, this sounds familiar).

Case in point, training has always been a major theme in this franchise. We understand that saiyans are a unique race that are genetically built to fight. Hence, they are unusually strong. So then, why is it that Jiren, a seemingly generic alien, is able to train, but unlike everyone else, can surpass even the gods and be unaffected by time itself (I still can't get over that)? Because he really, really likes being strong? The only thing more unbearable than this is the "u weak, i strong" dialogue they're going to have Jiren repeatedly spewing now, since Toei loves turning their characters into caricatures (JUSTICE FLASH!!!).

Oh, and he lost trust in people, so... he's a part of the Pride Troopers because... strength? Strength is justice? What?

Jiren should have been the survivor of a destroyed universe that had such a high level, it was considered a threat. Jiren should be someone who was born with such an unfathomable power, he trained his whole life to suppress it to not cause damage to the environments and people around him (perfect contrast to Goku). Jiren should be someone with a true sense of justice and little arrogance, as shown in one of the chapters in the manga, not this "strength is justice" bullshyt, which just makes him come off as a villain or lame anti-hero.'"

Y'all's thoughts?

THIS. ALL OF THIS.

I thought Jiren didn't have the weakness of being caught off guard. :mjlol:

I feel like an overlooked ability of the androids is that you can't sense their power level. It's probably harder for goku and vegeta to catch him off guard considering jiren would sense their power.

He'd have to be physically looking at 17 or he wouldn't even know he was there.

You guys going in on Jiren story need to chill. Clearly their holding the important information from it, and just giving us a glimpse of his situation.

Clearly the next arc is going to get more descriptive about it.

But there are some questions that need answers

-Why did they attack Jiren people
-what is Jiren wish?

But you can clearly see the writing on the wall with regards to Jiren and Toppo, and that’s sad.

Exactly, clearly Jiren can sense power levels but that’s why the androids shine.

What a great episode.

Jiren having that Batman-like backstory, unable to let go of the past. Juxtaposed with Goku's Superman-like backstory. And yet Jiren may be the closest thing to Superman we see in Dragon Ball in terms of pure raw strength, but is closer to Batman in terms of personality (but Batman is at least more expressive than Jiren is though). Interesting. Jiren's wish is also implied (possibly being to erase the past, which does go against his principles in the manga), but not overtly stated. . Jiren's backstory makes the manga stating that Jiren doesn't kill, much like Batman, a very nice touch. Perhaps because he'd view himself as no better than the one who killed his parents, again, just like Batman. "Justice", as he and the rest of U11 say. To think the GoD and Angel of Jiren's universe resemble Joker and Harley Quinn. Add these to the list of these subtle DC references in Dragon Ball. :pachaha: So, Jiren loses everything and strength is the only thing he had left to hold on to, and he's obsessed with getting stronger. Which makes him no different than Goku and Vegeta in that regard.

Also, the heck was that Freeza? :laff:

Didn't expect them to kill off 17 (poor 18, losing her brother). I guess Goku now knows what he should wish for, eh? Though 17 was able to damage Jiren, after no one else, not was even able to do so? Things just don't make much sense anymore. But 17 should definitely get that cruise. He's been an unexpected gem in this arc as a whole. Hopefully Bulma can hook him up. :mjcry:

Random thought, but can't the Super Dragon Balls bring back, 17, U6 and even North Kaio all back in one wish? Since they can "grant any wish"? :patrice:

This is what people wanted, dont know why people don't understand that this guy tells his best stories and gives the best fights and pacing over multiple episodes. Sure its a lot of "filler" or yelling but a lot of time that filler is what we need to get a sense of the character or fill in the dots.

17 had the best run of this arc and its because he is flushed out, we know why he's fighting, what he wants, how he's as strong as he is, and saw growth. You can't get that out of characters when you are trying to wrap everything up in 2 episodes, then move on to the next thing. It leaves more questions and make things that already seem questionable even more questionable. Like everyone needing like half a episode to get there energy back to fight now. It was 2 or 3 eps it would be more reasonable in most peoples mind.

Just things like that.

Also if they bring back up the near death experiences things as for as why vegeta and goku are getting strong in this fight with jiren that would at least make some sense. As of right now its just all over the place....jiren appeared to be more powerful when he was powered up and fighting freshly full power goku.

They never explained who Jirens enemy was that killed everyone or if he even defeated him. What if it was Belmod or an agent of his like how Beerus used to use Frieza and that comes out during this fight

What if these writers don't give a fukk and that's actually the best they can do? :ld:
