The thing to put into perspective when you add up all of the DB properties is there's a clear and omnipresent theme with everything except most of DBZ

I reread the manga earlier this year and it hit me. When you think about it DBZ, from the Saiyans til the end of Cell, was serious as a muthafukka Nikkas was dying left and right and those fights were grimy. When you look at DB/Super, and now Daima it's clear Toriyama/Toei want to maintain this lighter theme. It's the most consistent Dragonball theme honestly

Even when you look at the Buu saga that shyt is unserious as hell there are serious moments but it was obvious that Toriyama wanted to get back to making fun DB. I think what happened with Z is he tried something different and ended up being great at it so he rode the hyper serious road for a bit. Then one day he probably stopped and looked at his shyt like why this shyt so fukkin serious?"

The directors did say though that for the scripts, whenever there was a fight scene he would just put "Fight happens" and leave the directors to figure out how that played out.

Man was phoning it in hard af. "Fight happens" in an action manga is crazy

but the stakes so far are pretty low

Buu saga would have been better if Dabura was the main villain for most of the arc, with Buu in the egg as a looming threat. Mystic Gohan finally murks him after an epic battle (it was kinda weird how Mystic Gohan got hyped up but got absorbed hella quick after whooping Buu's ass for one episode) but it's too late, Buu hatches out the egg as Kid Buu (buu had too many forms, it got corny) and bodies humanity with his genocide attack. Would have hit harder on an emotional level cuz Gohan wanted to protect humanity as Saiyaman but it was all for naught and everybody got bodied.

Keep Gohan alive and have him, Goku and Vegeta square off against Buu on Kai's planet on some Avengers: Endgame shyt
