You can't just buy a school building and say you have a school. A school, and a private black owned institution at that, requires MILLIONS in upkeep.
I'll say the same thing about Tariq...you can't just open a museum with a $1 million either.
A school requires accreditation from the state as well as funding. A school also requires
- staff (janitors, cafteria workers)
- faculty (teachers and administrators)
- computers and internet (Umar talked about having typewriters...yes. typewriters. At the school)
- running water and working plumbing (he had port a johns at the FDMG festival cause the plumbing isn't working
- facility inspection (probably all sorts of lead, abstestos, and carbon monoxide in the building that hasn't been tested or removed)
- a seasonal curriculum
- schoolbooks
- a payroll for staff and salary for teachers/administrators
Umar has not thought of these things. And he obviously isn't.
To be honest brother, that’s not actually true.
You may be thinking of a high school or college type setting, but if you live in any major city (DC, SF, NYC where I’ve lived) there are many charter and private schools for younger students that are almost the norm now, and a lot of parents either pay for their kids or get sponsored to go. These are always in buildings that already exist, and started by an individual or small group of individuals who really aren’t that wealthy.
I was at a school like this last year that was all black and had the kids learning about African heritage etc. I can’t remember the name but it was like 4 rooms and the kids spoke about thier pride in being black before class started instead of pledge of allegiance.
This is a new era for education, and I know people who have started schools, so I know Umar is Bs because he is famous and got National funding while the people I know did not…
But guess whose schools are open
