I think a lot of people on here wanted Dr. Dre to retread the old sound, or have nostalgia of Chronic 2001 when I DO recall when that 1st dropped people complained it didn't sound like The Chronic and the 2nd half of that album was unfullfilling. It took for people to soak everything in with Chronic 2001 for people to embrace it as a masterpiece as it deserves.

Compton the soundtrack is a musical escapade and a fitting closure to Dr. Dre's legacy. It shyts on everything that's been released production-wise in 2015. It embraces the new LA sound that's vibing today and pushing the envelope. When the smoke clears and people look back at Dre's ENTIRE legacy, they will applaud this album equally as they have with everything else. This is a masterful album.

My favorite track on here is the one Premo worked on...all the other tracks got too much going on.

It's a great album IMO, after a 16 year wait was it better than Chronic or 2001? No, but it didn't have to be. The Chronic is synonymous with the climate around LA at the time and set off a movement. 2001 was about reminding us all who he was after all the drama with Death Row, and showing he still had it. This album is about him still being hungry to make music at the age of 50 when he really doesn't have to ever again.

His legacy was cemented a long time ago.
I hate when nikkas do shyt like this. Stop making excuses
He made another Dr. Dre presents the Aftermath and nikkas making excuses for it's wackness. This album is REALLY about trying to use the N.W.A. movie buzz for record sales. Which is smart. but it's still weak

just finished listening to it, made sure i don't rush to it and am relaxed when i finish it and not tired from work or anything.

so i obviously read a lot of what you guys, and other places were saying before i listened to it.

after listening to it, this is what i thought to pimp a butterfly was going to sound like after reading all the amazing reviews of that before i listened to it. don't get me wrong, tpab was good, but i appreciate it more now than i did initially. this is dope off the bat, and rarely do albums get worse for me over time, only better.

there's no crowd other than the fast food crowd that can dislike this imo, if anyone genuinely does, sorry to hear that cause that sucks for them. this is great to be able to listen to. another dr. dre album was not guaranteed, this is a gift for us brehs, seriously.

oh and btw, just so no one thinks i was taking a shot at kendrick or something, i'm not a hater or a stan type of lame, that boy is great here. i consider this as dre's passing of the torch to him. Cube, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Game have all been great, but I think this guy will be the most consistent for the longest. Shout out to all of Dre's family tree, what a run.
Consistently what though? Snoop became a superstar,as did em and 50. Kendrick is not and will not become one.

man

im going as far to say this is the greatest rap album ever

3 thorough listens all the way through. and bumping my favorite tracks nonstop all day.

when i first started listening i thought "dre rapping over trap beats? seriously?" and then the album just kept getting more interesting. just randomly changing up at different times.

its like dre took todays modern sound and just made it musically/artistically coherent.

the vocals i thought were drowned out and overprocessed at first and everybody sounded different than how you're used to hearing them. but then i saw it was consistent with the sound of the album. the mixing is glorious.

10/10

all you dudes not feeling this are either deaf, retarded, or just hating.

straight masterpiece

Subs for later. Not listening til I hit the road tomorrow night for Houston :lupe:

Whip test is the most important test :wow:

Kid slept the whole way to Houston (:blessed: but :stopitslime:), so had to keep the volume low. Stand out track for me was One Shot One Kill :wow: Snoop :ohlawd:

Will have to listen again full blast, but album was strong (not classic yet)

A new Dre album on my birthday weekend :donhomer:

Some of these beats are pretty original off first listen. Others not so much .

Need to give it more burn. BUT:

I can't believe a billionaire Dr.Dre couldn't stop Eminem from using his scream flow on this.

album was the most creative album i've heard in a while, musically. It sounds like nothing i've ever heard before and that's mostly what I want. I'm not a bacon and eggs every day kind of guy. I appreciate creativity.

The bars.. meh. Anyone that thought dre was a lyricist is delusional. Ask people to do things you know they can't do then complain because they didn't do them is the struggle bars camp all through this thread.

Get mad because eminem had his strongest verse since '03... why? We only want good verses from certain people now :mjlol:?

Love "Deep Water".

thats just how dude raps now, i caught Southpaw in the theatre and when Phenomenal came on :scust:

to compare this huff to either of Dre's classics is an insult to them. this is basically Presents the Aftermath status except that had a classic song on it

The top of the City
Dre sounding like a skitzo rapper on this shyt.

IMO, if as a ghostwriter your own style is so obvious in your penned verses, that's not really good ghost writing. Dre sounds so all over the place on this shyt, it's confusing. It was the same case on the recipe with Dre and Kendrick, Dre sounds so much like Kendrick it feels like why is Dre even on this song? Even in his phrasing and cadence, if you're not going to have your own style, why even get on the track? Let Kendrick sound like Kendrick and use a ghost rider that can make you sound like something separate from that... That's what I would think, but what do I know??

But yet and still, I can't say it's wack. It's just a kinda all over the place in terms of actual rapping.

It's sad because the writing on 2001 was so damn good.

Half way through listening... Maybe I don't have the right 320 MP3 version... Waiting for the physical release to cop but I'm not really impressed by the mixing like some comments have been shared

And I'm not a fan of Dre's voice. I'm use to that laid back hard voice he used... He sounds weird imitating that Kendrick flow

Idk.. Maybe it'll grow on me

I wish some more Detox sh!t would leak though.. How do you have tracks ghost written by every hot rapper: Jay Z, Nas, Drake, Wayne, TI, Luda, Em, Kendrick, etc for over 10 years and still put nothing out from it?

Even Banks said he wrote on it smh
