Don't sleep on Stephen Curry making the transition into an elite PG in '12/'13

Will Curry make the transition into being an elite PG this season?

He's no different than the myriad of scoring PGs that are in the league -- including Tony Parker. :ehh:

Tony, Rose, and Russy dont play off the ball.

I get what you are saying, but Curry is at his best with Jack on the court setting things up for him.

so he scoring like crazy playing off the ball with Jarrett Jack, and that validates him as a top point guard now? Ok :leon:

:stopitslime:

Check the tape nikka - 15 of his 18 field goals were unassisted/off-the-dribble (only ONE of those field goals were assisted by Jack). You're telling me Curry is at his best when Jack sets him up on 5% of his field goals in a career-high 54 point game? He had the BEST game of his career and that was down to a muh'fukka who helped him on 5% of his field goals? He only plays off the ball, on occasions (when Jack is on-court) because he's more adept at catching and shooting than Jack is; it allows the Warriors to have TWO floor generals on the floor at once and TWO players that can actually create their own shot/break down defenses. Curry is the only player in the starting 5 that can create his own shot on the regular. Why should the aspect of him playing off the ball (to benefit the team) be used to begrudge him of being an elite PG when he's the better catch-and-shoot player out of the only two guards on the team that can create their own shot?

He hits 45% from three (his strongest scoring area) unassisted on an overall 385 attempts (plus he's 1st in off-the-dribble 3 attempts in the league) and you're telling me he's at his best when he plays off the ball - when he can hit from behind the arc unassisted, better than every single player in the league?

In order for him to be elite, he doesn't need to be elite in all those categories, it's how he balances them all out and incorporates them into the offense. He's already got great passing, vision and ball-handling ability. He's one of, if not the best PG at spreading the floor; great in swing-ball situations/curling-out. He doesn't need to be effective with the ball in his hands all the time and has a great-understanding of where shooters need to be positioned on the floor due to actual-experience. He's arguably the best shooter at his position (+ the league) - which opens up EVERYTHING, the offense will have x-less % of being stagnant and losing its momentum/fluidness; defenses won't have the luxury of over-compensating on P&R/hedges/outlets/RTTR/cut situations etc etc. He basically breaks the 4on5/help-defender schemes that defenses implement on teams that have incompetent shooter(s) at the 1.

With usage-limitations and injuries, he hasn't developed the awareness and consistency to work and break-down half-court defense-situations, to where he needs to be at an elite level - this season (if he stays healthy) I can see him getting over that hill.

He's shown that he can break down half-court defenses on the regular this season - pick in pop, pick in roll, backdoor cuts, rolling out of ices/hedges, finding the open man on traps and resetting the offense. And as I said he doesn't need to reach Chris Paul-heights in de-constructing a defense in the half-court to be deemed an elite point guard. The TWO best point guards this season still can't break shyt down like Paul and both of them are deemed ELITE (Parker and Westbrook), it's all about how they incorporate their skill-sets to play at an elite level. Not this bullshyt of playing the role of a traditional PG.

Rondo on the THunder = titles, Westbrook like Rose-lite

You put Curry on that Boston team and Ray would still be there and that team could've made one more legitimate run at the 'ship (not to mention the likelihood of Boston having a title since he was drafted too).

Curry
Allen
Pierce
KG or some role player
KG or some role player

And don't bring that bullshyt in this thread. That theory has been discussed and proven wrong. Watch some Thunder games before commenting on that shyt.

And Westbrook on the Celtics since '08 with the tutelage of Doc and the guidance of Allen/Pierce/KG - shyt wouldn't even be fair.
