Stipulations. You gotta be making well below the median income to receive assistance and Texas median is different from other states because jobs don't pay much.
It isn't 'well below median income'. It's a 'percentage of the poverty guideline' which is different in each State.....

Also, the amount of people per household is THE determining factor, not (just) income. A family of 3 with an income of $50,000/yr. might not qualify, but a family of 6 might. There's also the matter of some income NOT being included in calculations, like child support and SSI/SSD.

A LOT of people think like you do and don't even bother applying. Others are just embarrassed. My advice: apply, the worst that can happen is that you're denied.

I definitely don't meet the qualifications because I make too much for Texas but right now they're not equating inflation and rent being 2k a month for a 1 bedroom.

Because this is Government money and they have to account for who gets what. That means all "t's " crossed on every piece of documentation......which can be substantial. That's why there are offices full of people to process it all in every State. If you did it, yourself, you'd give up.

Just an observation from being involved with this type of thing for a significant amount of time: I've found that the people who need and would benefit the most from the assistance are the least willing to ask for it.

Texas is def a tax by use/death by taxes place. Drivers are shytty, and it’s hot as fukk. I don’t regret moving here but it also not my forever home (not likely to buy a home here). May be moving to the Houston area next year but after that back to the East Coast. Austin does have a lot of opportunities in my field however.

Also my family left Texas.

I forgot the crazy ass electric bills, shyt is ridiculous.

The taxes, weather, and how suburban the state is stops me from ever going back to live there. I do like Houston tho
