50k seems real low not surprising though just another instance of music money aint always what it's cracked up to be. That song is/was everywhere.

50k is only the first royalty check. This song will be similar in impact to Blurred Lines which did like 17 million overall.

Record company people are shady!

From the article:

"The record companies (Interscope, UMG Distribution and Star Trak) took home the rest, with an executive at Universal Music testifying that overhead costs on the creation of "Blurred Lines" accounted for $6.9 million."

It costs $6.9 million to make a song?:beli:

If he really only got 5% he's stupid..if you take it his parts in the song then the song would fall apart. Shoulda held out for 15%

:what: You must be out of your mind. 5% for somebody to repeat 4 words? This ins't a sample, just an interpolation that ppl do all the time. They probably didn't even have to pay or at least this is the first time I've heard of such a thing.

Whats crazy is the song only grossed over $840,000 but it sold over 5 million, what the hell? I see why Jay-Z did that spectacle about tidal paying more to artists, because how can you sell over 5 million songs, and just get over $840,000? I'm sure the song got even more spins so the publishing gross should be at least $1.5-$2 million dollars.

Damn, the music game is being pimped by technology companies. I guess the chickens have come home to roost. Labels did it to artists, and now technology companies are doing it to labels, and artists. Artists do need to stop this shyt.
Yeah, labels killing these artist. Most of those 5 million sales most likely came from iTunes and if I'm not mistaken, artist get about 10 cents per download. So that's like $500,000 and then add in streaming revenue and maybe some other publishing deals and it's not surprising to see it hasn't even made over $1million yet.
