I shyt on Ireland more than anyone, but as a Fin fan, I'm not mad at this trade

going through this thread, it's pretty obvious a lot of you don't know what you're talking about; one dude even used "Vontae Davis" and "consistent" in the same sentence :laff:

Vontae was demoted to nickel back during the offseason because he was being outplayed by Richard Marshall (and Sean Smith, who's had a great camp)... the dude was coming onto the field solely on 3rd down passing situations and playing the boundary, as Marshall would move inside to the slot

was he the most talented person in our secondary? yes, without question. he has all the tools to be an elite corner, he's just too dumb and disinterested to ever be such... the guy can ball when he wants to, but he takes plays off and has mental lapses

but at the end of the day, he was a nickel corner in a below average secondary... so how exactly is this a bad trade?

I think how this trade is ultimately perceived depends on what they do with that 2nd rounder... if they go out and use it to trade for a WR, then it will look like a good move in hindsight, but I doubt that happens, because it's pretty clear the Fins are rebuilding

same was said about his brother,

and that's why I'm

you don't trade away an asset as important as a cover corner with "elite" skill like you said only because "he's too dumb and disinterested". If Philbin and co couldn't sort out Vontae, that, to me, is a testament to the mentality of this coaching staff.

People in the Colts organization apparently believe they can sort the kid out and have him play up to his potential, which has always been to be one of the best cover corner in the league. Meanwhile, this new coaching staff dropped the ball after a month of coaching

I'm less heated than I was at first, but unless we do trade that pick for a GOOD WR, then I still hate this thread

hes not an elite corner, but i think it was more the FO getting tired of VD having a bad attitude and not being consistent

yea he has highlight plays, but he gets beat deep all the time too

either way, i fux with dude's s-curl but i dunno if he's an elite corner

that s-curl is Carl Thomas-esque tho. :lawd:

The people shytting on this trade know nothing about the Fins. This is the second straight training camp where Davis has shown up out of shape. He lost his starting spot to a free agent, which is downright shameful. In the 3 full seasons he's played with the Dolphins, he has barely developed. Naturally, shytty coaching has something to do with that. But regardless, Vontae hasn't improved in terms of skill or maturity and the fact that he didn't care enough not to show up to camp out-of-shape with a NEW coach means he will continue not giving a fukk.

He may be inspired to get better by this trade but he has nothing more to offer the Fins. Meanwhile, that second rounder can be used to secure a receiver. Imagine trading that pick plus Reggie Bush to the Steelers for Wallace.

this is the only thing that saves this trade

if not

Dolphins get a 2nd rounder for Vontae, potentially adding to these recent 2nd round draftees: Phil Merling, Pat White, Chad Henne, Koa Misi.

so :pacspit: those Ireland draft picks

The fact that Ireland is a shytty drafter doesn't mean the trade is bad in and of itself. It's a good trade.

But in general, yes. Scust at Ireland burning the two picks he got for trading Marshall on Michael Egnew and Oliver Vernon. :snoop:
