There's regulations on how people are allowed to join up and make massive financial moves in markets. You can't link up on reddit and convince alot of people to up the price on dogecoin and leave them holding the coins when it crashes after you cash out. Thats a ponzi scheme

What happened with Gamestop is different because of the mechanisms in place. The dynamics of short selling and shorters having to purchase stocks to pay their bets basically created a multiplier that caused the price to compound and grow. Its by design.

Normally when prices rise or fall its due to "market speculation". But it can't be due to an massive organized effort. They tried to stop this by limiting the amount of investors hedge funds can work with. But when billionares and millionares link you don't need that many people.
