Yeah, it makes him a shytty father. Parenting is about balance.

Present parents without money sucks for the kids, just as absentee parents with money does. Given that most of us here probably didn't grow up well off, we're more inclined to say he's right, but when you get confused about why so many of these younger people grow into being pieces of shyt, idea like this are why.

Just being an accessible wallet ain't parenting.

I'm 60/40 on that, because if you provide your kids with nothing but money and aren't actually raising them, they're will wind up worse of than if they struggled. But yes, if you can get your family set up for generations financially, it helps aaaaaa lot, lol. You'll need some dope kids or wife to make sure they dont stray

If he wanted to be present for his kids he would find a way. Lebron, Kobe, Shaq, Prime etc. by all accounts have been praised for being very good fathers who found a way to balance careers, business ventures, and family time.

being present and available for your kids trumps all IMO - being THERE. He loves his job and the things that come with it, Im sure there is truth to his pursuit to "providing" but if it comes at the expense of being with your family, that time cant be replaced and bought, its one of the few things in life you cant put a price on

life is about balances, kids won't understand the sacrifices his making for financial gains
they see other kids with their fathers all the time who are not well off

you have to find a way to be in their lives everyday, make calls, get on facetime or whatever and set aside certain days to be there physically.
He has enough money at this point. Anything further is fulfilling his own dreams and ambitions and using the providing aspect as an excuse to fulfill his own ambitions.
It'd be nice he was honest with himself.

Our parents (I’m assuming most of ours are from the baby boomer/gen x era) raised us with this mentality: “would you rather see less of me as a father but with a roof over your head, or spend all the time with me you want in a homeless shelter?”

Once my dad said that to me, I kept my mouth shut.
Yup and most of it was bullshyt.

I think that's why Lebron is so gungho about Bronny being on the Lakers even though he isn't NBA ready yet. He might want to make up for some of those years when he wasn't able to spend time with bronny. If he's out at work with him everyday then they'll get to spend a lot of time with each other.
They say at 40 hours a week most people spend more time with their coworkers than their own families so it makes sense

No kids here but I call bullshyt. :manny: Traveling the world and making millions isn't a sacrifice. That is shyt he would have done even if he didn't have kids. It unfortunate when people believe their own nonsense.

This that BS right here. People will say whatever they have to in order to make themselves feel better about being a chitty Dad

My family was poor, my Dad went to a job he hated and was there when I was a kid and those are some of the happiest times of my life looking back on our family time together. Eventually he passed away, and I was still poor and had to work my way through life and a struggle

There's not a single moment of my life where I think "If only my Dad had worked harder and left me $$, then my life would have been so much better!!"

One thing i’ll say is that most of those men had solid WIVES by their side who made it easier for those busy men make their presence felt. Lebron and Kobe especially are examples of choosing the right wife who will make sure the children are available to be at games, marketing events, etc.

Thats one of the responsibilities that come with being, for lack of a better word, a “high value” man. You have to choose a woman thats wife worthy, and part of being wife worthy is helping to rear children who are well adjusted to the “life” and can sync that up with the husband. Deion and Shaq, even though they eventually divorced, had wives who were on that type on time as well. Shaq to this day laments he and his Shaunie’s divorce because not only was she supportive, she made sure it was easy for him to be a present father.
