But you'll never reach infinity. You can't write an infinite number, you can't think of an infinite number. As soon as you reach an extremely high number, there is always something after that. Or in your case an extremely low one.

And how does true randomness not exist?

there could be infinity in certain things. and not in others. or there could be no infinity at all. we wont ever know because our brains are not built where we could find out. we can only count so far with our brains.

is there an END to space or atleast the end where it loops back again as some think? WE dont know that either. and unless the loop back point or the end is somewhat near. we will never find that out either unless we start building ships that can go a million times faster then the speed of light. so we wont be dead by the time we figure out we've reached the end of space.

and lets say you did reach the end. what would you do? would you get out of the spacecraft and space walk until you bounce up against the wall of sorts?

would you try to hit it really hard to see if you can go thru it? how solid would it be? could you dig a hole thru it with a drill bit? if so. how far would you have to dig to get thru the thick wall. and what would the wall be made out of?

and if you drilled that hole, would that allow another universe to seep into our universe, slowly but surely messing things up here and in that universe. or vice versa. where our universe can leak away at some point into that universe?

as for randomness. remember what we call random is usually the point where we cant seem to follow the patterns. so its random until we find the repeative point or LOOP POINT. then we call it a pattern.

what we think is random may just be a very long loop. where its set to repeat again. or even if it doesnt repeat. its set to make a pattern of some sort.

1.2.3.4.5.6.7.10,
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.20,
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.150

1.2.3.4.5.6.7.20,
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.40,
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.300

1.2.3.4.5.6.7.40,
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.80,
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.600

when you look at the first set of numbers and the first 2 rows. you think oh might be a pattern. the next one may be 30 at the end. but when it goes to 150. you say forget it. its random.

then when you see it start again. you Assume the first rows ending number will be 10 like the original one. but when it isnt. you say, forget it. its random.
until you notice all 3 rows have the same first few numbers but the last number multiplies x 2 from the original 3 rows last number. and it happens like that again in the 3rd set of numbers. NOW and only now do you see a pattern and then take these numbers out of the real of randomness.

but just cause you couldnt see all 3 sets. doesnt mean the first 2 rows of numbers are random. it just means you cant see any further YET. the word random in science is used just like the word GOD is used for believers to fill the gaps. never forget that.

That's the concept of infinity. It cannot be theoretically reached, it can only approach certain values at certain numbers.

I'm a believer in determinism, therefore I don't really think there is such a thing as true randomness.

There can't be randomness if there is infinity...maybe. I want to input more but I have to do more researching. If there is no randomness there is something infinitely close to randomness. This seems like tautology but really I'm trying to figure it out as I'm posting.

why not? I mean like "pick a random integer between 1 and 100"

I also think true randomness doesn't exist but (from what I understand) it's not because of infinity, it's because whatever method you pick as 'random' has a certain pattern to it

Yeah I agree because of infinity though, in my limited knowledge. If a set of numbers can go on for infinity a pattern will eventually emerge. Sorry, I really don't know much I'd like to learn which is why I posted.

But if there's an infinite amount of numbers to be in the set then I guess...i'm feeling like psyduck right now.

screw the concept of infinity how about the actual world around us, where does it end, does it? DOes space just keep going and going? Is it infinite? Anyone can just keep counting but can you truly fly straight up and just go on forever?

maybe it's loops back onto itself. I think the shape people like to throw out there is a 4d torus

Interesting question, I've wondered about that too. :ld:

Depends on what you mean by "infinite".

We know the universe isn't temporally infinite (ie. that it hasn't existed forever) but whether it's spacially infinite is an open question. There are three models of the shape of the universe - open, flat, and closed. An open universe would have a negative curvature, a flat universe would have zero curvature, and a closed universe would have positive curvature.

If the universe is open or flat, it wold be spacially infinite. If it's closed, it would be spacially finite and shaped something like the 3D equivalent of a sphere (meaning if you went far enough in a straight line, you'd eventually get back to where you started).

Best guess right now based on measurements is that the universe is flat or very close to it. Meaning that it's spacially infinite. Of course, we can't be 100% sure, but that's what it looks like at the moment. One thing is for sure tho, if it's not infinite then it's really, really, really, really big.

yeah fuk the math that explains that but even then if you could escape that what would exist outside of it?

'nothing'? other universes? obviously no one knows the answer to that. it's one of those places where our understanding breaks down and all we have is the math

Tough one, we don't even know if "outside the universe" is even a meaningful concept. :yeshrug:

It might be like asking what's north of the north pole.

Nah, not all numbers repeat. It's called an irrational number ie pi, sqrt(2) they don't repeat.

There is no such thing as "outside the universe." The very definition of universe makes that statement impossible.

-All existing matter and space considered as a whole

Even the term multiverse is stupid...

-An infinite realm of being or potential being of which the universe is regarded as a part or instance

How can the universe be a part of something? It's all existing matter and space.

Maybe another dimension? Who knows.

I saw a special on tv that talked about the concept of an infinite random universe. Obviously nobody knows for sure but the question they posed was this:

If the universe is infinite and random then are we and everything we see just a random copy that has been here before and will be here again.

If there is anything we know about random it's that things will repeat themselves and given enough time you will get duplicates. So earth as we know it may be the millionth iteration of the same exact thing. That's not counting all the times the the earth would have been here but slightly different.

It's all enough to make you go:mindblown:
