Does anybody sometimes forget how short Austin's and the rock's careers were?

But yet the wwe was more popular/successful in 07 than in 03 when rock and stone cold retired:patrice:

They were losing popularity no matter what but John Cena and HBK filled in for Rock and Steve Austin nicely
the ratings say otherwise
and Austin and Rock weren't headlining they were on their way out.. nice try

Absolutely. The shyt he accomplished in his rookie year is fukking ridiculous
nikka debuted in the main roster and was champ 4 months later :damn:

Kurt Angle also had a freakish ascent. Everybody in developmental said he got a grasp of it all faster than anybody, and the fact that he was able to put it all together as a personality pretty much from Jump Street was incredible, too. He nailed that dorky ass character from day one.

The funny thing is, whenever I mention my favorite wrestler or favorite moments in wrestling, these two are rarely ever brought up.

Not taking away anything from their legendary stature, but for me, they never did anything for me.

And the crazy part is that in the moment, it didn't feel like it was quick. The Attitude Era as a whole only lasted 4-5 years but growing up it felt longer. It use to seem like time would crawl on Monday's, had me thinking about RAW/Nitro in school all day that day lol and the 2 hours would just fly by and you'd have to wait 7 long days to get another fix :mjcry:

those days are gone forever.

It's because almost every week via Raw, Heat, Smackdown, or PPV...they had historically great moments. Bret didnt have that. Taker didnt have that. Michael's. Cripple H. DX. Angle. Jericho. Warrior. They didnt have that sort of greatness week in and week out...

His rise was incredible too, cause when you saw where he started in the WWF, you could hear a pen drop during him matches. I remember the match he had with Shawn Staziak (Survivor Series ‘99??) and when he hit the Angle Slam and pinned him, there was no reaction at all :mjlol:. Of course, it didn’t help that no one has ever cared about Staziak :manny:

yup and the boom period of wrestling died when they retired. They both had the power

nah

the boom period died in 2001. they were both active and on top.

the boom period wasn't sparked by them either.

Thank you for getting what I was saying and not playing stupid. I agree with this post:salute:

homie, your OP is whats stupid.

please don't throw subs while posting like youre wearing a special shoe.

I'd add Brock in there too somewhat. Only had a 2 year full time run in the beginning and look how his career panned out. :wow:

yea.

brock & the warrior are the 1st 2 names that come to mind, when I think of short careers but massive impact.

bill Goldberg in 3rd.

rock & Austin(or WWF Austin LOL) put in more work than people realize.

Nope. Wrestling was starting it’s decline, but people didn’t stretch REALLY turning away until late 02/early 03. At that point, Rock was a part timer, and Austin was a commissioner. Ask anybody in real life who don’t watch wrestling anymore (or watch very little) why they tuned out, and I guarantee you it’s cause of Rock and Austin not being active anymore.

Everything you typed was complete bullshyt, Rock & Austin had the WWF competing with Monday night football every week. Not to mention being on magazine covers, award shows, tv appearances & music videos.

Like undertaker, Hogan, Cena, Shawn Michaels, ric flair, etc all had long careers, with Cena and Hogan also being on top for most of their career. But Austin and rock both had a what 6-7 year career, if that, with both only having like 3 years at the top. Yet they accomplished so much and the 2 best to ever do it. It's like they came and went

Same with Bret. His singles run was only like 8 years

but the decline began when they were still there.

as for the bolded, youre talking about casuals who simply grew out of watching it.
for every person that says they stopped watching because rock & Austin left, theres a person that didn't care to watch the rock & Austin era at all because their favorites that they watched as kids were already gone by that point. the WWF is a childhood nostalgic driven company.

it's the ol' show biz adage. Leave em' wanting more. I'm so glad neither tarnished their legacy like so many others have *coughUndertaker*

I think part of it is that their rise coincided with expanded programming and the Monday Night Wars. So instead of it being like the Hogan days or even when Bret was champ where you weren't guaranteed to see the champs week to week. Once the Monday Night Wars hit you had the champs all up and down the shows multiple times a show and then you add in Smackdown and then Sunday Night Heat. They were able to jam pack a lot more moments into a short period of time compared to previous greats. Not to mention the speed that the WWF was flying through stories during the attitude era allowed for a lot more moments.
