Authentic. You gotta live it to the point where you at least did the majority of shyt you rap about or was around it/in the mix. Not a nikka who's just making stuff up because it sounds clever.

I don't care if you rap like prime Rakim mixed with 1996 Jay-Z, if that shyt is made up, and I KNOW it's made up, I'm not trying to hear it.

you can tell usually who's real and who isn't by the way they talking anyway :manny:

Honestly, I need rappers to get back to telling stories...not trying to be the characters themselves. Stop trying to be up in the videos and shyt especially if u hot as fish Grease.

You shouldn't be in a video flashing guns if your stupid self is on parole.

We don't need no more rappers being locked right now or dead at that.

On a another note, nikkas in rap need to stop being ashamed of not hitting the block.

I like EST Gee but that was some goofy azz shyt for him to walk outta interview when cats asked about him playing football.

I would have answered that question with ease. Gee should have said this:

"I played College Football and dabbled into the streets.

A OG in my neighborhood pulled me aside and immediately told me that I couldn't have one foot in and out so I played College Football until that ran its course and left the streets alone. While playing FB, I was listening to some Nappy Roots and realized that I needed to continue carrying the flag for Kentucky.

Keep it real with yo self.

I can relate to Nas in a way... I like rappers that add a bit of social commentary in their material.

I lived at home and scribbled in my notepad listening to his stories on wax. The first CD from Nas that I brought was It Was Written.

Nas ain't no studio gangster but I can respect the gems that he be dropping in his stuff.

Doo Rags was basically a 5 minute lesson about the History of Black Hair.

I don't really hear Nas getting pressed like Prodigy did.

Even Prodigy had to calm down on the Gun Talk which is why I wasn't upset with H.N.I.C Part 3.

Yes, and if they crash out the kids need to see what comes with that lifestyle. They need to see you begging the judge for a second chance... Snitching to save yourself. All that shyt

A harmless dude rapping about how great it is to sell drugs and shoot people from the safety of his mansion while he makes his money legitimately is immoral.

no I don't want rappers to live their lyrics because they will either end up in jail or dead

I don't even want rappers to take the drugs they rap about because they can OD

I just listen to it to enjoy it and be entertained by it, I mostly listen to rap for good lyricism, like good word play, metaphors, punchlines, and analogies, regardless of the subject matter they're rapping about

Crazy how we constantly scream "it's just entertainment" :hubie: whenever rap music is on trial but on the other hand we concede that we would no longer listen to certain rappers if we found out they were basically studio actors like Denzel & DeNiro.

We accept that Denzel was acting in Training Day. We accept that DeNiro is acting in all of his gangster flicks. We accept it because it's "just entertainment".

We attempt to call rap "just entertainment" also but we clown rappers when we find out that they're not truly what they rap about.

A major hypocrisy I've noticed for a long time now.

You can't say it's "just entertainment" and then turn around and say "I need my rappers to be authentic".

If it's truly "just entertainment " it shouldn't matter.

rap is not like any other art form

I want my rap genuine

My GOAT is the most authentic rapper ever

Hell my favorite movies are realistic or based on a true story. U dweebs can keep that fantasy Star Wars type shyt and shove it.

Your favorite movies are made by actors who also do not live the gangsta lifestyle.

Sounds like you got a lot of boycotting to do.

Hope you not a gamer. Cause no one can shoot fireballs from their hands IRL

If a gangsta was a fake Academic/scholar in his raps or a fake peaceful Revolutionary in his raps y’all would have no qualms tho, 🤔. Lupe is lowkey kinda a fake nerd…he said he switched to the nerd route initially because his man was on trial and he didn’t want them people going thru his gangsta ass lyrics and using them against him in court. It’s only the studio gangstas that (literally) turn dudes off, 🤮. People love vicariously living dangerously, lol…people will always prefer a real gangster/drug dealer/Stripper or Prostitute (for the girls), dangerous person over a pretend one…especially people who aren’t that but wish they were built like it, they’re fascinated by it. Kinda sad.

But even with that said, they too would rather hear a “fake” gangsta who is extremely dope than a real life gangsta who’s super trash, believe that. Nas ain’t no gangsta, he probably did regular project kid shh that everybody did…E Money Bags was a gangsta for real. Nas Escobar was excellent at rapping about that underworld, criminal lifestyle that E really was living (when Nas was on that). Even them weirdo people who get wet from watching/hearing gangsta shyt from a safe, soft ass distance probably would still rather hear Nas than E Money tho..because Nas was excellent at rapping about it and E was one of the worst rappers I’ve ever heard, 😂, no disrespect.

it's easier to play tough that to actually be creative*
It’s easier for a Creative to express themselves creatively, even if what they’re expressing isn’t really them…than it is for a non-Creative, untalented person to express themselves creatively, even if what they’re trying to express creatively is really who they are. Talent supersedes everything, being an authentic gangsta isn’t a talent, lol…I know it seems that way in this rap shhit tho. If you genuinely would rather have had Frank Lucas play Frank Lucas than Denzel then something’s wrong with your brain champ.

So Lupe was a high ranking drug dealer or was he rapping his manager life and what he saw around him?

The Lupe was a gangsta shyt gets pushed a lot on here and I just don’t see/hear/feel it.

I can’t tell you that bruh because I have no idea…I can only tell you what he said. He said he was a gangsta rapper around nothing but gangstas and killers and violence…and made a conscious decision to go a different direction with it because he didn’t want to jam his man up that was on trial with his gangsta raps.

My point was, a fake-anything else is fine…it’s just “fake gangsta” that doesn’t sit well with the fake gangstas, 😂
