Do you think Hov doesn't want to drop another album because he's afraid his sales will brick?

Can’t find the the thread, but I made a thread way back asking what current era producer could Jay link with to have a similar spark like Nas and Hit-Boy. I think I had Wheezy, ATL Jacob, MurdaBeatz, Tay Keith, Metro and some others listed :russ:

Good take. If you look at the last 10 years or so hes attached his name to Kanye and Beyonce. Even 4.44 was promoted as a response to Lemonade. He did an album with Elec to force him to release something, but hes not credited because Jay Elec doesn't have the profile.

Then you have MCHG which in spite of its defenders, was a critical flop. Jay was still one of the most famous rappers in the world at that time so its numbers were solid, an album along those lines would not work again.

Hes cautious, I can see him making an album with Drake, Nas, Eminem etc. He wants him albums to achieve something. He has made non commercial albums before - AG, 4.44, but those seem carefully calculated to add to his critical legacy.

This is wrong on so many levels. 10 years or so is 2013-2023. Jay has dropped two solos, a joint album with Beyonce, and one with Jay Elect. Where was Kanye West involved with any of those projects? In terms of Beyince, there's really on some of the subject matter of 4:44 and "Part II" from MCHG. Lemonade doesn't have a narrative without Jay, so BOTH of them have benefitted from each other these last 10 years.

MCHG was definitely not a critical favorite. It was a by the numbers Jay Z album, but is still the last Jay Z album to have multiple hits. Yes, something like MCHG could work again, but it would have to be an album that was the balance between 4:44 and MCHG. It needs the cohesiveness, the depth, and urgency of 4:44, but at the same time some of the bangers that were on the stronger side of MCHG.

Did you miss his “Ghostface appearance” on Jay Electronicas album?

Dudes been rich since the 90s :dahell:

Because his house went from 40m to 100ms it means that he can’t rap? Where is the magic point, when your house costs 63? :mjlol:
Was waiting for someone to mention A Written Testimony. He found topics to tap into on there and dropped some quality verses. I'd take an EP of that kinda rap

First part is an easy fix if nobody gets the phrase "or so". Lets just say 12 years.

I don't have an issue with what you said about Beyonce, but again I said thats how it was promoted, not that it was an accurate representation.

And the last part may be subjective, but I think MCHG's hits just had good promotion. They didn't stick, no DJ is throwing that on unless its an all Jay-Z set for variety. I don't think Timbaland has helmed any big albums since the 00s. Trying to make another big budget Jay album with trendy (and some :flabbynsick:) features again seems like an obvious mistake to me.

I just don't see anybody over 50 having a big hit. The cutoff might even be 45. That goes for all genres. Anyway, my whole point was that hes adaptable and smart, he'll find a way for the next album to be successful in some way. I think really only Kingdom Come and MCHG failed, and he was able to learn from them.

What on earth is he gonna rap about to keep it real these days? Watching the heavens, stars, and moon at night? The sound of ocean waves, his back-up generators, keeping iguanas out of his pools, his monthly utility or maintenance crew bills? 😅

Man honestly for the two of them and billionaire status that house seems fairly modest to what I was expecting it might be

Modest? Breh that ain’t a house . That’s two seperate houses. The one on top is ugly as fukk but it was the most expensive property sale in California ever.

The one on bottom has 3 floors and is fukking huge. It has a whole nother level underneath the grass and pools. Zoom in and see how small the people are in the picture.

Ain’t nothing modest about these places

Honestly, I feel Hov had nothing he wants to talk about for a full albums length. He is at that point now where he is too damn successful in life to drop anything music related. All his raps now are about him living that “Happily Ever After” life.

I mean IF he wants to drop an album, I can see him doing a Gangsta Grillz like album with Drama and he is just rapping. No theme or nothing…just bars for like 10 or 12 tracks..and that’s it. Just to remind folks on who he is..but even then :yeshrug:

We will know he is serious about dropping new music when he finally cuts them dreads off..

Yeah that's actually a good post...

A gangsta grillz or probably dj Khaled mixtape
