Do you genuinely think AEW will compete?

Do you actually believe it or do you just hope so?

See it’s stuff like this that makes me uncertain if they’re going to pull it off. Orange Julius or whatever the fukk his name is is a “character”, but there’s not a lot more you do with a guy like that unless you revamp him entirely. Not to get all Cornette here but I do think he has a point when he says the wink and nod character shyt like this will only take them so far.

People ain’t fukkin with a dude long term who keeps his hands in his pockets and gives weak ass kicks to tommy dreamer. Just my opinion.

I understand this train of thought but the reason I think it’s wrong is cause Orange Cassidy CAN wrestle he just doesn’t want to expend an ounce of effort more than he absolutely has to. There are matches of his on youtube where he is forced to wrestle.

If you deemphasize certain parts of the Orange Cassidy character i think he could work as an upper tier mid carder in the Toru Yano vein.

AEW so far is kinda mid though.

I personally dont want them to fail but anyone thinking they are going to someone compete with WWE is delusional. It took alot to do what WCW did, they even took WWFs biggest star Hogan along with a few cast offs and they were still seen as 2nd rate, it wasnt until the perfect story line came that they went to number 1. All this nonsense abour treating it like a real sport will turn more people off when we know shyts fake, I want crazy storylines and dope characters.. not 120lb indie nerds wrestling at 160mph with zero story. shyt is wack to me.

in fairness, people who still saw WCW as second rate once they got Hogan, were just marks.

they were out-classing the WWF in just about every category before the NWO even began.

and ALOT of people want the real sports feel. we havnt had such on a big mainstream platform since WCW fell off and got goofy. that's why the WWE's attempt at a monopoly failed twice. a lot of people don't like their brand of wrestling. but yet, youre under the impression that the WWE way is the only way.

hell, FOX wants smackdown to be more sports-like.

I don't trust the "elite" to book this thing cohesively longterm. Every wk isn't an allstar indy show. These guys are going to have to cut promos on live TV to get angles over. Going to be interesting to watch.

When one the bucks "worked" a back injury in njpw dave acted like these dudes deserved a academy award lmao

Yes. In my opinion, wrestling fans by and large are fans of WRESTLING first, organization second.

Furthermore, unless the WWE does everything perfect, AEW will always have its fanbase solely because it isn't the WWE and the cruel realization that these days, wrestling fans are some of the most difficult and unreasonable people to please in the world.

I feel like they'll eventually be less successful than WCW at it's peak but more successful than TNA at it's peak

This is accurate... also, people are impatient nowadays so it's tough to say if it will or won't be able to compete. The way things are, people act like if it's not neck and neck with WWE instantly, it doesn't stand a chance. It takes time to progress to that point. It's gonna have to build up through the TV show, and the PPVs, and the marketing, and by acquiring more talent as time goes on. In the meantime, the real focus should be on SUCCEEDING first, THEN competing. I feel like it'd be detrimental to jump into a competition before becoming an establishment.

Hope AEW will be a real competitor but don’t think it will last

I think they'll be a good alternative to WWE. If they would have started in 2012 or 2013 then I think they would have been a real competitor. There is just too much wrestling out there like MLW and NJPW.

Define: compete

Shyt the Grizzlies compete with the Warriors, they just may not win often :manny:

Offer a viable alternative, maybe, but in 2019/2020, with more than one way to consume a product, I don’t think WWE will lose much of their overall audience in a binary switch. They may lose some, but most people will watch both feds

AEW is not vying for all of the WWE audience. They don’t need to take down WWE to be financially successful.

I think in fans eyes, they might definitely begin to be considered as the favored alternative to hardcore wrestling fans, but hardcore wrestling fans are nerds. WWE is corny, AEW seems to be gimmicky as hell so far, with a few shining spots. Every show feels like an Indy showcase with a few actual wrestlers who can captivate an audience on major level (Jimmy Havoc, Darby Allin, Juice, etc. are built like jobbers :mjlol: :dame:)

They need a Ultimate Warrior/Goldberg/RVD type superstar to take off to get the word out to the normies.

Those guys were homegrown guys built from the ground up in there respective companies.

Maybe they already do and we just don’t know it yet.

When Goldberg was on the undercard feuding with Hugh Morris, no one knew he was going to be a legend

I just found out my cousin's boyfriend is a markbeard. Dude traveled to Chicago for the AEW show. :skip:

It's crazy because they've been dating for several years, yet nothing was ever brought up. :skip:

I don't know how deep he's into the game, but I wanna say he's an Elite stan. I also have an old HS friend who reps them, and he stopped watching E programming years ago. YB and Cody really out here bringing in a mix of old/new fanbase. The ball is in their court. :ehh:
