The stories are exactly why I don't do other gyms. You fool around and embarrass they cash cow e.t.c and now there's a target. No bs,I used to go to open mat at a gym in clarksville tn and I had to take on their heavyweights. No big deal im thinking 30-50% next thing you know i get my shyt rocked and it's a fight. I spun him against the cage, flying knee followed by elbow. He's leaking And wind knocked out. The owner starts yelling about don't hurt his fighters. Smh gtfoh. Same thing in Nashville,Tony Johnson's gym. Front kicked the fukk outta his chin and walked right out the door. Most gyms wanna set you up for their fighters

Y'all wear headgear in MMA sparring? Agreed, sparring is such a mixed bag, no matter what gym. Ive seen experienced guys rock rookies teeth out they mouth, shyt is all kinda fukked up, especially when it's anywhere above 135.

When I was boxing abroad one time me and a few other guys from the gym took part in an MMA training with the neighboring (university) MMA club. Thought it'd be fun. It was like a gesture, they saw us for one training and one time they visited our training though I wasn't there then.

Anyway we did some wrestling moves during the class like sprawling, duble leg takedown, etc, some BJJ moves (idk what was its name but started from a standing postion) and even ground and pound "bag work" on some small square bag that they put on the ground, which I found weird cause it doesn't really require practice imo.

At the end of the class we had a sparring boxers vs MMA guys, and we had no headgear (whatever, we didn't have it on boxing either) but the weird part was that we didn't have gloves either cause we didn't have MMA gloves and boxing gloves were off, just do it bare knuckle... so I it was confusing as hell in the first minute, like "How hard do I suppose to go here?" :gucci: Eventually I could figure out how to keep them honest but don't go in full at the same time, my aim was to not get on the ground. Funny cause the first dude didn't even try to get me there, he was more of a lanky kickboxer kind of dude and one time almost kicked down my head, literally scratched the point of my nose :pachaha:. The next guy was overweight, tried to rush and get me to the ground but couldn't manage cause he was too slow and couldn't catch up on lateral movement:russ:
Fun times

If youre 18+ in nyc, almost all the boxing gyms are gonna be 150+ a month. There are some free ones but you have to be 18 and under for them to accept you.

Does anyone here go to boxing gyms in cities other than the city that they live in?

I've always wanted to go to Johnny Tocco's in Vegas if Freddie Roach's gym in L.A.

Has anyone here been to either of these gym?
I usually go to see who the best fighter there is, I challenge him, then afterwards I buy everyone in attendance a new mattress. When you a boss you can move like that tho you know...

Trainers don't even have to be certified. It's no rules to that game. Maybe when it comes to the Freddie Roach level or something you have a whole process and a contract etc
But in my experience you can pretty much walk into any gym in america and just approach a guy working with somebody and negotiate from there
Yea his brother did seem like an a$$hole but maybe it's where I'm from and the fact there are gym wars and all kinds of beefs going on but the boxing gym on a low level seems really toxic and full of unsavory type characters. The other response in here like about Japan seem way more friendly for newcomers. I come from a city known for "rough fighters" though (philly) so I think part of that culture is present in the gyms.

No offense breh but people from Philly are just rude as hell in general. Y'all don't even try to be, y'all just grew up being a$$holes to each other and that's how y'all communicate. :pachaha:

Same for NY, it's a little bit like that here but not every side of town.
