Does anyone here go to boxing gyms in cities other than the city that they live in?

I've always wanted to go to Johnny Tocco's in Vegas if Freddie Roach's gym in L.A.

Has anyone here been to either of these gym?

ive trained at roach's gym - wild card before..its an interesting place..they have 2 levels..top level is where anybody can go train as long as you pay the daily fee..the bottom level is for more serious contenders..one thing they let you know off rip....its not a place to be a groupie...no cameras or any of that shyt....i was in LA to see the j rock vs charlo fight and i stayed with my boy in hollywood..he was training regularly with justin juuko who was one of the trainers...i didnt do anything too crazy...did bag work, some mitt work, and jumped rope and chopped it up with some other fighters about the j rock-charlo right until my boy was done with his session..freddie roach's brother pepper had me practice throwing uppercuts on the bag..that dude hit hard...it was a good experience

Nah, when I'm travelling I'm usually on a holiday somewhere I don't try to box there just having fun on a more relaxed way.
When I lived abroad for a year or so I boxed there though but that wasn't travel but actually living there for months.

agreed..that was the rare time i actually did a workout on a travel....usually on my boxing getaways or regular ass vacations I do much more "live" stuff..but i wanted to say that i worked out a wild card..clout hahaha :russ:

like on that LA trip...after the workout at wild card

  • I got high as a kite
  • went to the famous roscoe's chicken and waffles and tore some food up as because i was high
  • went to some strip clubs with my boy and blew money fast (and had to talk down to the strippers for misbehaving)
  • day of the fight drank strong ass craft beers at a bar with 3 ring regulars and got nice as fukk
  • after fight and post fight activities drove a ring regular home..having a karaoke in my rental and roasting hookers on the strip on the way
that was a dope trip :wow:

I've got to Tocco's out in Vegas. Would not mind going to Floyd TMT Gym but I don't think they would let me in.

Checked out a gym in Japan, but my Japanese at the time was basura. Next time I’m there I’m gonna train and check out kourakuren hall now that I can speak like a dignified 8 year old..

:sadbron:I know the feeling re simpleton abc's Japanese language, thankfully they're a polite nation and well versed in English a lot of the time.

I visited
  • Teiken gym in Tokyo (Linares, Valero, Watanabe, Gonzalez, many Japanese bantamweight and flyweight champs so on). Serious gym, worth a visit.
  • Tried a lot of gyms to train in Tokyo but was complicated and needed memberships etc.
  • Visited Ohashi gym in Yokohama. Inoue's Gym. Serious operation, but all fine to check out.
Trained at
  • Trained casually a couple of times in Yokohama and Osaka at Ioka gym (Ioka i think? Yuki Nonaka etc) Great gym, good people.
Understand the sentiments re holidays and training. More often than not ill be on a holiday, eating, drinking, smoking like a motherfukker, get guilty, get my run and train on.

Back when I was training and competing in the mid-2000s gyms were free for those who wanted to learn the art. Nowadays a breh has to pay an arm and a leg just to learn how to throw a few combos :mjcry:

Boxing gyms done turned commercial and I hate it :scust:

Where did you train?

Breh it’s redunkulous these days. They all cater to that CrossFit crowd who’d happily throw $150 to hit a heavy bag, but don’t follow the sport.

I usually try to talk it up with owner and tell em I just wanna work the bags I don’t need coaching and try to get a discount.
