You can build a sub-$100 dedicated emulation PC running Batocera Linux if you're yearning to play retro games. People sell dirt cheap old Dell enterprise PCs on eBay that work great for retro emulation. They have terrible specs but can play 16-bit era games and earlier with ease. Swap out the PSU and GPU with something a little beefier and you can even play N64, PS2, and Gamecube. Free full library ROM packs are all over the internet.

Yes! Just started getting back into emulators for this reason...that and I don't feel like digging out my old consoles.

I have a lot of the OG systems from the past say 30 or so years but original parts are getting harder to come by. Probably going to get modernized clone systems at least for my NES SNES and Sega.

Might look into a simple emulator box I can hook up to my basement TV.

The new Mac Mini is a complete powehouse for emulation for a tiny price. I never need to boot up my Saturn or Dreamcast anymore

Compared to the games we have now... YES

Exactly why I have about 2-3 different emulators. The majority of current gen games aren't really hitting on nothing for me. PSN stay constantly rotating the same games every month on discount.

Are those games on virtual console?

I'm funny on emulators because somebody here hipped me to the fact that the controls are never 1:1 with emulators. The input lag is greater these days, slightly off what it would feel like if you had say an NES controller in your hand. The precise control you once had is not as precise. To give an example, the 1up trick in super Mario 1 is way harder to pull off in emulation than it would be off the real thing. Once I was hipped to that reality it ruined emulation for me because subconsciously I knew something was off. Now that I know, I can't get over it :damn:

Everyone comes to this same conclusion, but it's not the whole story. Most will call it day a like you did but I have a 6yr old who harasses me to play with him. And he loves to grind in those games that were frowning on right now. What I've learned as an adult is if you stick to it you'll find your form again. Then you'll be as good as you once was. If I wasn't pressured to play I'd come to the same conclusion you did. I did come to that conclusion trying to play RC pro am.

As a kid you welcomed the challenge, as an adult it's more of it better play the way I like or :camby:
