I agree with some points but I disagree with the overall idea that Ross has no message or is just another interchangeable rapper at the top for 5 or 6 years.

Most of the music is inspirational, but even more importantly the fact that Ross is the artist he is today is inspirational. It wasn't that long ago people were calling Ross's career over. He not only came back, he came back stronger then ever. He didn't just come back as a stronger artist, he came back as a savvy business man as well. That kind of resilience is what a lot of people need in these economic and socio-political times.

I want this guy to listen to Valley of Death and tell me Ross has no message. That song is like Ross's Ether, not in the sense of being a devastating diss track but in the sense that in demonstrated Ross, like Ether did for Nas, had the resiliency to stay in rap as long as they wanted. If either Nas's or Ross's careers could survive what they had been through, they could survive anything.

exactly. if nikkas really don't respect ross' movement, they're haters.

This guy is just expressing the thoughts and feelings of every one who knows who Ross is: a fake, a fraud. The same way that some one will sell you something terrible with a smile on his face and call it something that it's not; Ross is selling us, 'Hip hop' except from the fact that his lyrical ability lacks in shock value and his message is materialistic bullshyt. It's everything The foundations of Hip Hop wasn't built on and that's why any real fan doesn't like Rick Ross. Ye my man can spit, but the culture is more than some one spitting a 16 of fire. It's hard for Ross' 12 year old fans to understand that though. :bryan:

I know, they say as long as the good music that's all that matters. But you see the effect that Scarface & Nas Hip-hop track had on people's emotion and spirit. Even party tracks can have that effect, but the trash coming out these days are a big step back..

If you read the comments the author made on youtube, he says he likes his music.

It just goes against the whole reason why Hip Hop was made. I'm not saying the sound must remain the same but the subject matter needs to step up and I agree with you breh. People like Ross are a virus and are destroying lady Hip Hop.

You gotta give Ross some credit, he never claimed to respect hip-hop. He let it be know he only cares about getting money, he has no control over people loving him and his type of music.

I feel Ross is hip-hop, and is a talent to make crap people enjoy. But it sad that he is at the fore front, this is a very sad state. And we can't focus on Ross, because he is not the problem. He is not a leech or a virus, we the fans are.

We destroyed anybody who tried to be created and innovative, Jay-Z would have never been able to "double his dollars." In this era a lot of artists are realizing that, look @ Minaj.

That's actually a very good point. We as consumers are a threat to the genre we love so much. It sounds insane but if Chief Keef released his album tomorrow, this forum would go into server overload. We have sensationalized the culture and allowed Hollywood to tell us what's right and what's wrong with Hip Hop and the worst part about it is they have all the money and MONEY TALKS. We opened the floodgates for terrible music a long time ago and they've been open for too long for us to close IMO. The formula is simple, stop listening to fukking terrible music! The real question is if there's actually any going back?

It was always like this, people always loved crap. It was never about cutting edge music for most fans, that's why CEOs are having bidding wars for Odd Future and Chief Keef.

Only thing that kept things in balance was most high quality music & hip-hop classics came out of the East and West Coast. The South has been mostly about buffonary, I see Ross no different than Vanilla Ice or Young MC.
