Do “Light Skin Girls” really struggle, or is Oprah just trying to make another movie?

There's absolutely something wrong with it when you understand the history of where this issue come from. It's an issue that's not only present in the US, but in South Africa, Haiti, Rwanda, and even India.

As a black man if you have a "preference" for light skin woman you have to be honest with yourself and ask yourself why. Is it because it's what you find attractive, or is it because you've bought into a system of white supremacy that says anything closer to white is automatically superior.
Last paragraph is kind of stupid because how are you going to know professor? Unless you give out some ways to differentiate you sounding just like the average online ranter on this issue IMO. Who really don't think they like what they like cause that's what they like instead of some white supremacy non sense?

You can figure out that answer through self reflection and understanding yourself. Ask yourself why is lighter skin more attractive to you than darker skin. Think back about the comments you heard growing up from your family, friends, peer groups, etc regarding light skin and dark skin and see if it matches your current belief system when it comes to colorism. Be honest with yourself about how light skinned women are portrayed in the media vs dark skin women and how that affects how you view them.

It's funny because the comments you just dismissed wasn't even something that I came up with. If you read the works of Carter G. Woodson, Fredrick Douglas, and many of the prominent African American scholars and historians they bring up some of those same questions. They talk about how as part of our education in this country in the 17th and 18th century, we were taught that white was superior and black was inferior.

The fact that we're having the same conversation that our ancestors did predating the formation of this country let's me know at some level it's less about preference and more about conditioning. It's why to this day in certain Caribbean and African countries there's an epidemic of both men and women lightening their skin to become darker.

As I got older and I started to read more about where that shyt came from, I had to literally reeducate myself on how I viewed my skin color and why I believed what I believed about that subject.

I do understand myself that's why I said I think its stupid and don't like how people like you try to strong arm folks into one thing or else. My family honestly never did that dark skin lightskin stuff so I can't relate. Friends did it but it has nothing to do with what I'm into now IMO because its never changed for me. I like good looking to me girls regardless if skin tone and its always been that way. I don't care much about the media portrayal of dark/lightskin cause like most things I know its slanted so why pay much attention to some thing you know is slanted?

I've read some of them books and they're are truths to them but like anything I don't just believe everything I read just because somebody prominent says it. At the end if the day I just think this is a ugly people problem regardless of skin tone. If you are getting guys/girls whatever you are not worried. Outside of when I was real young skin color has never been a problem. I think having diverse friends and family helped in that.

Lastly like a lot of things we keep having the same discussions because people just like to talk for distractions sake instead of actually do the work/whatever that is necessary.

I'm not trying to strong arm anyone into anything. nikkas can't date whoever the fukk you want, even a white bytch I could give two fukks.

And I brought up those scholars just to show there's an historical reference to this shyt. In my original post I even mentioned India because just like us, under colonialism a system of white at the top and dark at the bottom was formed.

And sorry to disappoint you but it's not an ugly people problem. It's white supremacy (and black inferiority) in practice. You can't deny that anymore than you can deny black men and women straightening their hair comes out of white supremacy.

As for solutions you start by knowing where this shyt comes from and understanding that historically the shyt is traced to slavery and colonialism.

And the shyt just doesn't affect women. I've personally seen how different my brother was treated by both black and white people because of how dark his skin is. It's one of those things we don't talk about but effects us on so many levels.

You can't disappoint me just like you I know what I see/experience and obviously we live two different lives. I keep saying it and its true for me but this is an online/slash ugly people problem. People can blame white supremacy or whatever they want but in my real life I just don't see dark skin or any complexion of women complaining unless they are unattractive ime. Most people not even around whites to even let them influence them unless you talking about some clowns rap lyrics which would be more plausible. When it comes to this issue it almost reminds me of how some chicks talk about white women taking the men. History usually shows your not going to complain about something that don't affect you and or your flourishing in.

We can disagree on that that's cool but that's how I look at it. I understand and respect you feel differently though even if I don't agree with it.
