Goddam this game is hard, this shyt takes me back to the old days of RPGs when there was so little handholding. But it's very rewarding, even basic battles can be life or death.

You HAVE to save after each battle and never rush through a place. There is always the possibility of a button on a wall hidden in plain sight, or a key that you need that you didn't know had fallen off of an enemy. Sometimes there are even areas that will magically appear if you get close enough to it. Or something is buried in a corner and it's only visible after your characters happen to walk near it. Sometimes it's just weapons or armor and sometimes it's something that you may actually need. This game is not for the impatient. And for anyone just getting into the game, if you haven't figured it out already definitely use the R3 button on consoles, or the Alt button on the PC to make your life a whole lot easier by making items visible.

I did a little thieving early in the game, but eventually, I'd say around the time you leave Cyseal, you start to pick up so much armor and random gold stashes that money was never an issue. As a matter of fact, rarely did I outright pay for anything. I always kept my gold as a reserve and I would only purchase stuff via barter. I'd make sure that I had a character with at least +1 bartering and I'd use gear for the rest. Having a character at +2 or +3 Barter from what I've seen is all you really need. Hell, with the amount of loot you pick up you can get away with it being at only +1 and that will make things cheaper for you while paying you more for your loot. So you really win twice with bartering.

Just started. Any beginning tips?

Mostly stick to mages. Heavy melee are decent later in the game but dual wield rogues (Wolfgraff for example) are pretty awful. Especially when half the spells your mages use will hit him too.

I made the mistake of making one of my main characters a Rogue, for 90% of the game I just used her to toss grenades. Towards the end Rogues get cool abilities and can do good damage but for most of the game they're just a pain in the ass to use.

If you want to mix it up get Bairdotr, she's a Ranger. Give her a bunch of special arrows (Static, Ice, Fire, etc.) and she fukks shyt up.

Stealing is the best when you first start out. Also keep in mind any merchants you kill will drop everything they own, plus what you sold them. You can make a ton of money like that.

Be careful though because they replenish their stock. You don't want to kill an NPC early in the game that could potentially give you better stuff later on.

Having said that, once you hit a certain point in the game the gear doesn't get much better. So if you need money for other stuff (Spell Books, etc.) just kill a merchant.

Lastly any towns that were completely evil/part of the cult I wiped out. Killed the entire village. That is optional but it gets you extra EXP and money.

Going to roll with Jahan, Wolfgraff, the 2 handed melee guy I made, and my main character is a mage with geomancy and fire magic. Thinking about changing Wolfgraff to an archer since I wont be using Bairdotr. Just don't like the rogue class.
