The biggest thing I kept hearing when this shyt was coming out was its appeal to people with kids and our ability to watch the classics we grew up on. I kept telling nikkas, adults watch TV too and they're the ones paying for this shyt.

Nostalgia is one of the most overrated things, btw. It's a momentary feeling. Classics are classics, but when you go back to some of the shyt we used to watch :scust: That nostalgic feeling goes away real quick and you're looking for something new to get into. Mid Marvel and Star Wars content ad nauseum isn't going to cut it. They need a merge with Hulu in the baddest way.

"Pigs get fat, Hogs get slaughtered." Below is a list of the top selling DVDs in 2010. Look at the revenue generated. I put the Disney films (That I know of) in Bold. There use to be an entire film industry funded solely by DVD sales. Studios got greedy and pushed Streaming, now they are struggling to replace that lost revenue stream.

Rank, Title, Units Sold, Total Consumer Spending
1 Avatar 10,173,099 $183,637,624
2 Toy Story 3 9,035,368 $162,059,003

5 The Twilight Saga: Eclipse 7,133,878 $128,338,465
6 How to Train Your Dragon 5,344,798 $105,554,848
7 Despicable Me 5,167,066 $86,837,146
8 Iron Man 2 5,065,079 $113,286,268

18 Shrek Forever After 2,586,135 $46,010,637

20 Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue 2,449,377 $43,782,898

Streaming was inevitable just like in music due to technology. With that said, it’s a fukked up model that devalues the product significantly.

You mean for $20 a month, I have instant access to infinitely more movies/tv shows than my old video store used to have in inventory in a given day?

That shyt doesn’t make sense. It’s not even good for the consumer. With so many choices available, we begin to value the products less. We spend more time browsing and browsing through thousands of titles, binge watching shows that we forget instantly, bailing out on movies/tv shows etc.

It’s a crazy model if you ask me.

Ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. The price the consumer pays is they don’t make the type of mid level budget movies that they made in the 80s and 90s. . An entire genre of movies for adults is not being made because without DVD sales, the studios can’t make back their money. So we are stuck with remakes, sequels, reboots And comic book movies.

David Chase said the same thing is happening in TV. Expect less quality prestige dramas going forward.

Actually, we went from buying physical music, to downloading music for $0.99 a song, then to streaming music on for a revolving monthly fee. Spotify is the streaming music market leader, with over 30% market share, yet isn't profitable. So I don't think its a sustainable business model. While Netflix and HBO Max are actually profitable video streaming businesses, they do so by offering significantly smaller libraries of content. Spotify has 100+ million songs available to users, while Netflix has 3600 movies and 1800 TV shows at any given time. I personally believe I had access to more movies on VHS via brick and mortar retail stores (Not including Blockbuster) in the mid 1990s, than I do now via streaming services. I find myself going on sites like Justwatch to see what service has a particular movie, and more often than not its not only available for digital purchase, not streaming.

I won't pontificate on why, but music and movies have definitely lost value in the eyes of consumers. So I see why consumers see to reason to own a copy of music or movies. Maybe I'm just old, but that boggles my mind.

Can't imagine how bad the quality has diminished. I used to use my friend's account until he canceled. I know he got it back but i haven't had an interest in checking it out. The classics are cool and all but can prolly get shyt for free online anyways. They got so many streaming options these days & most of the programming isn't even that interesting or appealing. They don't make cartoons like they did when we were younger and the marvel/star wars stuff also doesn't seem as appealing. Wouldn't be surprised if subscriber numbers drop some more.

I think they've done a decent job with the 'Star Wars' content like 'The Mandalorian' and 'Andor' but there was also some mid. The biggest problem with that is they completely fukked up the sequel trilogy.

Did the mandalorian come back for another season? I think mid season 2 is far as i got.
