Here's the thing. Lucas has been independent his whole career. He's about to retire now. He's worth 3 Billion Dollars. He's basically cashing out. I don't think he sold out. He's played the independent game for over 40 years, he made history and paid his dues. He made 4 Billion off this deal. I understand why he did it. He went to Disney cause they offered the best deal. Star Wars Franchise is so big that it will be making Lucas and his Family money for several generations.

LOL @ Star Wars being a Dead Franchise:

Star Wars Prequels and Merchandising (99-Present): 15 BILLION
Star Was Clone Wars Series: One of the highest rated Cartoon on Cable

Star Wars will always make money. Episode 7 will be one of the most anticipated sequels in history. We aren't talking about prequels. We are talking about the story taking place after Return of Jedi. LOL @ anyone doubting the power of Star Wars. Adjusted for Inflation it's the Biggest franchise in movie history.

That's the cartoon u can't assume the movie would do the same.

While the franchise isn't dead, it's not a guaranteed mega smash. The original trilogy did numbers because it was unique for its time. The prequels did well off the name of the first three. In order for this to do the astronomical number some are assuming, it has to come with a next level product.

Also Summer of 2015 is about 2 1/2 years from now. It's clear that Lucas has been lying to fans for years about there being no more stories after "Return of the Jedi", I'm sure he has the new trilogy outlined already. He release "Episode II-VI" in 3D to set up Episode 7.

What are you talking about. Name one Star Wars movie that flopped at the Box Office? Every Star Wars movie won the Year at the box office but Episode II and even that came in the top 3. You making like the Prequels didn't break records, lol. The point is Lucas pulled in a whole new generation with the whole "Clone Wars" cartoon and prequels. So now when Episode 7 drops, he will have the 70's and 80's babies like myself waiting to see what happens after "Return of the Jedi" and now all the kids who grew up on the prequels and clone wars will go with their parents. Star Wars will hit ever demographic. Episode 7 will break major box office records, especially since it will likely be in 3D.

Again Star Wars is a Brand. They re-released "Episode I" in 3D 12 years after it came out, everyone has it on video, it comes on regular TV and it still did over 100 Million Worldwide. Star Wars is way to popular for ya'll to be underestimated it.

I think you're grossly underestimating how valuable and recognizable the Star Wars franchise is today.

It doesn't have the same buzz it once did (mostly due to the last movies) but shyt is still a huge phenomenon.

Hell I remember reading a while back that the census in various nations were reporting HUGE spikes in people identifying their religions as "Jedism" and themselves as "Jedi".

And didn't they just announce/release a Star Wars Mod for Angry Birds? That's in addition to all those Lego Star War games that were doing crazy numbers. Not to mention the various comic book, action figures, and all the other star wars related shyt...

Just looking at Merchandise Star Wars is head and shoulders above every other franchise.

The "Clone Wars" movie cost less than 10 Million make also that was an animated movie not live action. The point of the Clone Wars movie was to set up the TV series and it worked, they are approaching their 100th Episode. There have been 6 Live Action Star Wars movies an all of them were massive successes at the box office. The fact is Star Wars is one of the only franchises in History that the re-releases actually still make money. They re-released Episode VI-VI in the late 90's and they all made bank even though people have had all the movies on tapes for 20 years.

Exactly. Forbes said Star Wars is the biggest merchandise franchise in Movie History as far as books, comics, games and toys. Lucas brings in Billions just off that.

:russ: at getting excited over "Star Wars" in 2012. Seriously? The last 3 movies were fukking terrible. They're gonna churn out a wack ass movie with the "Star Wars" name slapped on every 2-3 years and suckers are gonna go see it because they have some kinda weird obsessive loyalty to the brand, no matter how wack it gets.

Yes, it was cheap to make, but it showed that the fanbase wants something new/different. In order for these movies to do the crazy numbers you're talking about, this needs to be a legit good movie. It's not guaranteed to be a runaway success.

Man,...
If they make luke on the dark side like that dark horse comic.
I am there.

Especially if they explain the death of Mara jade.
Or they can get the dude from ereygon to play luke in the flashbacks or be the new luke.
Or heroine in the series...
Dude was born to be a Skywalker.
