She said this in the lead up to the film being released, not after it bombed at the box office.

Still, the director is aware that, in an age of streaming, “getting people off their couches to pay a babysitter, buy dinner, buy popcorn” is a tough ask.

“Look, people have to buy tickets to this movie, too. This movie has to make money,” she says, plainly.

“If this movie doesn’t make money it reinforces a stereotype in Hollywood that men don’t go see women do action movies.”

And yeah it probably does reinforce some dumb stereotypes in Hollywood.

Still I never got the impression that so much was riding on this particular movie.

Atomic Blonde felt more important than this. I wouldn't mind seeing that get a sequel.

Women action movies will be fine. I mean Sigourney Weaver is the GOAT.

. . . Although, Uma Thurman might give her a run for her money.

Terrible casting and there was really no need for a Charlie's Gnels movie.

John Wick only made $86 Million against $30 Million dollar budget, I don't need you to mansplain to me how the movie business works.

:pacspit:
I added in that I'd take a sequel.

I fukked with the movie and it's also proof that men aren't against female action stars.

I remember seeing the trailer for CA a few months ago and nothing looked appealing about it.

:umad:

In addition to the fact that nobody asked for this movie, everyone's saving their money for Frozen 2. Also, a movie like this is probably best suited for the summer, but we all know why they didn't drop it then...

a Spider-Man movie was out :troll:

The Numbers reports the film only made $8.6 million in its opening weekend.

These results are way worse than even the most conservative estimates according to Box Office Pro.

Box Office Pro had previously predicted the film would bring in between $25 and $35 million in its opening weekend citing Kristen Stewart and Naomi Scott as positives as well as “the demand for more high profile / tentpole films led by empowering female characters.”

I can't remember the last time I went to a movie theater and was asked my gender before being handed my ticket:yeshrug:

Plus having a bull dyke like Kristen Stewart as a lead, when Charlie's Angel's always had an air of femininity is extremely off putting, her lack of acting ability notwithstanding :hubie:

Lastly, the advertising for this movie popped up on my FB timeline daily....if you have to promote your movie THAT much, just know it's going to be shyt
