I'm a UNC fan but as a NYC head I like to see St. John's do well. It's intrigued me that they can't seem to get right in terms of finding the head coach. The Mullin hire seemed more about PR than actual basketball. From what I've heard and read, a lot of the things SJU had going for it back in the days have gone away, like being able to give players dough since there weren't any dormitories. I might actually listen to Francesa this afternoon and see what he has to say as an alum.

The sneaker companies are to put kids in their most visible programs.

St John's hasn't been a brand name in college hoops since the early 90s.

And in 2019, no, NY media market doesn't mean THAT much. Stockpiling talent in the Blueblood schools like Duke to dominant TV for the year has been working out for the sneaker companies so it's gonna take someone real shrewd in recruiting and an actual X's and O's coach to start building some momentum their with wins as the big recruits aren't coming any time soon

That is 100% facts about the dorms ,I've heard the same story for years. The players on the team were basically provided housing from alumni so the stipend they got from the school was like free money from what I heard, once to the dorms got put on campus the stipend stopped and the incentive for players to stay home pretty much stopped. If you from NYC then you remember basically St John's entire roster all coming from Riverside Church or the Gauchos AAU programs.
