This ain’t even the worse sampling story. The song “DeJa Vu (Uptown Baby)” by Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, sampled “Black Cow” by Steely Dan.

Initially, Diddy was going to sample it for the “No Way Out” album and was willing to pay a hefty price for it. However, Peter and Tariq released the song without getting sample clearance.

Apparently, a bass player who was in the studio at the time of recording said they were completely ignorant of where the sample came from. Stating: “who the fukk is steely Dan? They should be thanking us, this sample will make them well known.” :francis:

Well, Steely Dan and Diddy were obviously pissed. The former took 100% song writing credits. Also:

man i don't even fukk with steely dan like that, but being involved in music and not having a damn clue is beyond me. Especially when these older acts from the 70s and 80s got heavy pull in the music industry, my goodness.

Well can a rap song be made without sampling? Seems like the talent would be more impressive if the shyt came purely from the dome. Diddy’s shyt was lazy af just throwing shyt lyrics on folk’s whole ass songs. He deserves to pay out that shyt…

That’s why Havoc from Mobb Deep my favorite hip hop producer the way he creates you can’t even tell where the sample come from. Not too many can produce like Havoc.
