It really depends.

I'm 32 and I was heavy into DBZ but I was already off it when it really hit the states because I was into anime since the Ronin Warriors days when you had to wake up dumb early on a Saturday morning to watch it.

When DBZ started airing heavy on Cartoon Network I think I was already in HS and then I was like whaaaat? nikkas into DBZ???

Some people were into anime some people clowned it. You'd be surprised though a lot of the most thugged out hood cats were into anime and shyt.

Back in the day I used to cop episodes of all kinds of anime from Bargin Bazaar downtown Brooklyn and the same dudes in there copping mixtapes and jewels and gear were copping anime tapes.

I remember copping a DBZ movie one Friday and this dude with the Method Man vamp ice grills walked up and asked me if it was the new shyt and then copped it himself.

Yeah, people talked about DBZ all the time when I was in middle school/high school. I remember people bootlegging the Japanese videos and everything.

I remember looking up spoilers online back when I had the 56k dialup.

Where the hell did you grow up? Every "nerdy" (hell...even the popular peoples was watching that shyt) Black kid I knew, talked about DBZ, Yugi-Oh, Pokemon, and Naruto (06-07). . I'm a '93 baby but I'm pretty sure DBZ was hot beforehand. I remember Toonami ( GOAT Cartoonetwork) playing DBZ, SailorMoon, and Gundam like crazy. I would watch it before school at 7:30am.

I'm kind of a nerd myself but I never hear anyone talking about Dragonball Z outside the coli.

Then again I'm a little older so I grew up on Transformers, Voltron, G. I. Joe. I watched most of that one DBZ season with Cell but that's it.

But I can't browse the coli without seeing references to Goku, Vegeta, super saiyan, etc. and stuff like this

We did but lets not pretend nikkas on average was into that shyt like yall are....we watched all the morning cartoons and afterschool cartoons....dont compare DBZ to something like the xmen or batman/superman cartoons,youll only embarrass yourself among nikkas....must be carrying over to the younger generation though.

The only people I heard talking about dbz was my younger brother @Troublesome and his friend. I just met someone 11 months ago that said him and his friends were on it heavy growing up. I'm 35 and went to high school in Japan. Maybe it's cuz I was an athlete.

Anyone class of '99 or older get deep into dbz?

I didn't really watch it. When we were in Japan, they didn't show the English version. Everything was in Japanese so I never really got into it. I think I started collecting the dbz cards, but that lasted about a month. I really dont know much about it. Only character I can name off the top of my head is Goku.
